This is the face this Black Vulture made when we wished him a happy !

Vultures are scavengers who feed almost exclusively on carrion (natural and man-made carcasses such as roadkill) and decaying matter. This tends to give them a bad rep, but their choice of food makes them critical to the health of our human communities. A vulture’s stomach is as strong as battery acid, with a pH barely above 0. This acidity is able to dissolve diseases including rabies, botulism, and anthrax. By consuming carrion, vultures remove these and other fatal diseases from our ecosystems, in turn protecting us and our pets from contracting them.

It is always a privilege to release a vulture back into the wild and do our part to conserve these keystone species. Thank a vulture today! One way you can support vultures in our area is spreading the word to hunter/homesteader friends or family about our ongoing need of game meat for our vultures and birds of prey. If you or someone you know is clearing out a freezer in preparation for the hunting season, please don’t toss any unwanted game, donate it!

As many of you know, Skywatch Bird Rescue has become a big part of my life this year. It is an incredible organization, that does so much for our avian friends and our community. Amelia has dedicated so much of her life to be able to get to this point with the rescue, which was done solely by her hard work establishing resources and connections. As well as all the donations and volunteers over the years. However, all of the resources get stretched thin with how much the rescue does. There is no federal funding, what so ever. Which means, our communities help is INVALUABLE! Please, show your support by coming out this weekend and finding some goods at the bimonthly yard sale. Another fun summer camp in the books with The Learning Tree! It means so much to me to give back to the kids, and my community. Who knows what I’ll dress up as next year 😁

We get by with a little help from our friends 🪶🩷

During this busy baby season, we are caring for birds up to twelve hours per day and can easily fall behind on other tasks. We could use extra hands to help keep our property looking its best! 🤝

We’re looking for volunteers to assist with landscaping and maintenance such as mowing, painting, pulling weeds, spreading mulch and planting trees, making minor repairs, and doing occasional supply pick-ups.

We are also looking for volunteers dedicated to housekeeping, focusing on doing dishes and laundry, mopping floors, organizing shelves and supplies, and cleaning our various work areas.

Volunteers must be 21 or older and able to commit to one shift per week for the season (12 weeks). If either of these sound like your sort of thing, please message us for more information!
