A membership organization makes the news, and not in a good way.

A volunteer with access to events and member information had a history no one uncovered. Not because it was hidden… but because no one looked.

For fraternities and membership organizations, reputation is everything. You’re built on leadership, community, and trust. But trust shouldn’t replace due diligence.

Whether it’s:
• Chapter advisors
• Volunteers
• Event staff
• National leadership

A thoughtful background screening process isn’t about expecting the worst, but about protecting your members and your mission.

In today’s environment, organizations are being held accountable not just for what happens, but for what could have been prevented.
Strong organizations don’t just react to risk. They plan for it.

If your fraternity, sorority, or membership organization is reviewing its risk management practices, learn how background screening can support safer leadership and events here:

By July, your hiring goals may have shifted. Your risk tolerance probably has, too.
But has your background screening policy kept up?

Here’s what smart teams are checking now:

✅ Do your packages still match your positions?
(If you added roles or restructured teams, you might be screening too little… or too much.)

✅ Any new locations?
Laws change by state and city. What worked in Q1 might cause compliance headaches now.

✅ Added remote or gig workers?
You may need ID verification or continuous monitoring where you didn’t before.

✅ Are your social media screening standards defined… or vague?
(If “We Google them” is your current strategy, we should talk.)

Screening shapes who you hire and how safe your workplace feels.
If your policy is outdated, you're not just behind, but you're exposed.

Let your screening policy reflect the team and risks you have today.

A new Virginia law - House Bill 1730 (HB1730) - goes into effect on July 1, 2025.
It holds employers legally responsible if an employee causes harm to someone vulnerable, like a patient, nursing home resident, or passenger, even if that employee passed a background check.

Why?
Because the law says employers must take reasonable steps to prevent harm. If you miss red flags, or don’t have a process to catch them before or after hiring, you could be seen as failing that responsibility.

It’s a big deal for employers whose staff work closely with vulnerable people in healthcare, senior care, transportation, education, and more.

That’s why many of our clients are rethinking what a “safe” hiring process looks like.
A thorough background check is still the foundation, but now it’s just as important to add tools that help spot warning signs early and keep watch after someone’s been hired.

Here’s what that looks like:

✅ Criminal history
✅ Social media screening for violent or threatening behavior
✅ Ongoing monitoring after hire
✅ Real-time alerts when risks appear

is about accountability. But more importantly, it’s about protecting people who depend on your employees every day.

Today, we recognize the vital role recruiters play in building the teams that keep our communities safe and healthy.

Behind every exceptional nurse, physician, technician, and support staff member is a recruiter who found the right fit, not just for the role but for the mission. Healthcare recruiters navigate a fast-moving, high-stakes landscape with precision and purpose, helping organizations hire with confidence.

We’re proud to support healthcare recruiters with background screening tools that help them move quickly while staying compliant, so they can focus on what matters most: people.

Did you hear about the Maryland facility where a convicted individual was working with children?

A recent audit in Maryland uncovered that a convicted individual was employed at a facility serving children, highlighting a critical lapse in the background screening process. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of comprehensive and ongoing background checks, especially in sectors involving vulnerable populations.

should be more than a one-time procedure. It must be continuous, compliant and thorough, adapting to evolving risks and responsibilities.

In fields like education, healthcare, and youth services, it’s worth reflecting:

Are your current processes aligned with the responsibility you carry?

In today's competitive job market, the temptation to embellish resumes has led to a concerning trend: falsification of academic credentials.

📊 Eye-Opening Statistics:
- 70% of job seekers have admitted to lying on their resumes.

- Nearly 30% have lied about their college degrees, with over half claiming to possess a degree they never earned.

- Alarmingly, 41% of applicants have misrepresented their college credentials.

These aren’t just numbers; they represent real risks to businesses. A single hire based on fraudulent credentials can lead to compliance issues, damaged reputations, and costly missteps.

In this era, thorough verification of academic credentials isn’t just a best practice, it’s essential risk management. Verifying directly with institutions ensures accuracy, safeguards against liability, and reinforces the integrity of the hiring process.
