This week, I am focusing on the importance of q***r joy.

Starting drag was a selfish endeavour, only for me.

While I knew representation was important, it still surprises me just how much my approach to drag and burlesque, and visibility in a fat AFAB body, makes an impact on people.

When we prioritize our own joy, we inevitably bring joy to other people. And that's what makes everything worth fighting for.

For Ace Week, let's reexamine the spinster / bachelor trope in history.

It was common for historians to lump all people who didn't marry into the spinster / bachelor stereotype, often overlooking or intentionally ignoring same-gender attraction.

Now, history is reassessing these figures with a q***r lens, but does that include asexuality?

When we are revisiting the archives, we need to be expansive in our definition of q***rness.

When a fundraising event supports q***r youth and is at one of my favorite breweries, count me in!

This week, I raised a glad with my partner and dad at the annual OUT MetroWest GAY-la.

As a new board member, it was great to witness the community that has grown around OUT Metrowest and the impact on q***r youth and their families.

It was really special to share another aspect of my life with my dad, who always admires how the q***r community shows up for each other with such authenticity and appreciation for one another.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers to putting together such an impactful event that centered impact and inclusivity (oh - I good go on for DAYS about the intentional accessibility choices!), and for shepherding us through an evening of joy and impact.

A huge shoutout to Obie for sharing his story and a personal glimpse into the importance of OUTMetroWest. As my dad said, “The kid nailed it!”

There isn’t a clear roadmap to becoming an ally. There aren’t prerequisites or specific actions that grants you that title.

Instead, allyship is a consistent way of being.

Accessibility has become so much my norm, it shook me when I went to begin my presentations and there wasn’t a microphone.

What is a norm for me in event planning and presenting can be an oversight until requested for others.

I am sure there was at least one person in each training who wished they could hear me better. A microphone makes voices louder and clearer for many people.

However, accessibility is one of the many reasons I type out my full speaker notes and make them accessible for free to all attendees.

Last week, I headed back to to serve as a Subject Matter Expert for a management class focused on adult learning and development.

The class is developing a training for peers who host groups for adults with q***r kids in their lives, exploring the nuances of safety.

This was a complex topic to teach about in just an hour, but I was up for the challenge.

As I said to the class, “We cannot solve the issue of safety for LGBTQIA+ youth, but we can keep moving the needle on creating a more affirming, understanding world.”
