Protection has a heritage of its own.
Long before the term “close protection” existed, leaders and other influential individuals relied on trusted guards to protect them, their families and their ability to carry out their responsibilities.
Over centuries, this role evolved from personal guards and military units into the highly specialised profession we know today.
Modern close protection is built on far more than physical presence. It combines planning, intelligence, risk assessment, secure movement, medical preparedness and disciplined decision-making—all designed to prevent an incident before it occurs.
The methods may have changed, but the principles have endured: vigilance, preparation, trust and duty of care.
As South Africa celebrates the many cultures, histories and traditions that shape our nation, we also recognise the professional heritage of those who have dedicated themselves to protecting others.
Happy Heritage Day, South Africa. 🇿🇦
