One thing we're watching closely as we head towards 2027 is how much quieter and more convincing cyberattacks are becoming.

The dramatic version, with the locked screen and the ransom note, gets the headlines. But many attacks are far less obvious. In some cases, businesses don't even realise their systems have been compromised.

Businesses will need to pay even closer attention to how they protect their information, verify requests and train their teams to recognise threats that no longer look suspicious.

Especially those that rely more on AI systems over human judgement.

Going into 2027, we believe prevention will always matter. But we suspect more businesses will be judged on how well they recover from an incident, rather than simply on whether they were hit.

This is a conversation worth having now, before waiting and having it under pressure.

πŸ‘‰ Four Microsoft 365 security checks that shouldn't be left until something goes wrong.

- MFA: Is it enforced for all users?
- Email: Is automatic external forwarding blocked?
- Legacy access: Are older authentication methods disabled?
- Admin accounts: Are privileges restricted and regularly reviewed?

These checks are easy to overlook when nobody has clear responsibility for managing the Microsoft environment.

Techtron's Fully Managed Microsoft 365 (starting at R4,850pm. Endpoint device support not included) helps keep configurations, security policies and monitoring under ongoing management, either alongside your existing IT team or through full management by Techtron.

Who is responsible when AI makes a mistake?

If AI produces incorrect information and that information ends up in a client proposal, financial report or operational decision, the consequences still belong to the business.

From uploading company documents to relying on AI-generated answers, employees need to understand what is acceptable, what information must be protected, and when outputs need to be checked.

An AI Acceptable Use Policy helps establish those boundaries without necessarily restricting the benefits AI can bring to your business.

We've put together an AI Acceptable Use Policy to help businesses understand what responsible AI use should look like.

πŸ‘‰ Read the policy: https://techtron.co.za/docs/ai-acceptable-use-policy/

Imagine your office had one security guard who checked everyone's ID at the front door... and then went home.

We like to think of a traditional firewall as a bouncer at the door.

They check who's coming in and make a decision based on a set of rules.

A Next-Generation Firewall takes that a step further.

It's more like having a security team inside the building as well.

It can inspect network traffic, understand applications, identify suspicious activity, and give your IT team much greater visibility into what's actually happening.

Your firewall is one of the most important layers of protection between your business and the outside world.

Not sure what firewall you're currently running or if it's still offering the right protection?

πŸ‘‰ We're happy to have a quick conversation and help determine whether your existing firewall is still aligned with your business needs and today's threat landscape.

How many different software applications are being used across your business right now?

Employees often install software because they need a quick solution to a problem, but every new application can introduce security, privacy and compliance risks.

In this week's TechTip video, we look at why businesses should have an approved software list, what it should include, and how it can help you maintain better control over the technology being used across your organisation.

πŸ‘‰ We often get asked how to get the most out of Microsoft 365, and, more importantly, how it should actually be configured.

Microsoft's default settings aren't necessarily designed around the specific risks, requirements, and way your business operates.

That's why Microsoft 365 shouldn't be treated as something you set up once and forget.

Users join and leave. Business requirements change. Microsoft introduces new features. Configurations change. Threats evolve.

Someone needs to keep an eye on the environment.

That's what our T365 Fully Managed Microsoft 365 package is designed to do.

Starting at R4,850 per month (endpoint device support not included), T365 includes: πŸ‘‡

βœ“ Security & compliance policies
βœ“ Configuration management
βœ“ Monitoring & alerts
βœ“ Cloud support
βœ“ Microsoft 365 application support
βœ“ Assistance for your existing IT team
βœ“ Full management of your Microsoft environment

Not sure whether your Microsoft 365 environment is properly configured and managed?

🀝 Let’s take a look at it. Get in touch with Techtron to discuss how T365 could work alongside your business or existing IT team.

If your business suffered a cyberattack tomorrow, would you know exactly what to do?

How long would it take to recover? Who would you call? What systems were affected? What data was lost?

If those questions aren't easy to answer, it may be time to sit down and build a clear incident response plan before you actually need one.

β€œDon't click suspicious emails.”

It's been one of the most common pieces of cybersecurity advice for years.

But what happens when the email doesn't look suspicious?

The South African Insurance Association's latest analysis of the financial sector highlights an increase in AI-driven phishing and deepfake-enabled campaigns targeting executives.

Attackers are using information about leadership changes and corporate restructuring to make their messages more convincing.

That's a very different security challenge.

For financial businesses, security awareness can no longer simply be about spotting bad spelling, strange addresses or obviously suspicious requests.

Employees need to recognise unusual behaviour, unexpected urgency and requests that don't make sense, even when the message appears legitimate.

And awareness is only one part of the equation.

SAIA's recommendations also include scenario-based resilience testing, simulating both data compromise and operational disruption.

Technology, people, suppliers, policies and processes all need to work together.

SAIA's full cybersecurity update is worth reading:

The financial services sector continues to stand on the frontline of cyber risk.
