🚨 PROACTIVE PATROL LEADS TO COPPER CABLE RECOVERY 🚨

While conducting patrols in the Belmont Road area, CT77 and the Compass Tactical K9 Unit identified an individual whose behaviour raised suspicion.

Members conducted an enquiry and, during a search of the suspect’s backpack, discovered suspected stolen copper cable along with tools commonly associated with cable theft.

Approximately 5–7kg of copper cable was recovered on scene, including lengths measuring approximately 50.2 metres and 20.7 metres.

Rondebosch SAPS was contacted and attended the scene, where the suspect was detained and handed over for further investigation and processing.

Cable theft continues to impact infrastructure, disrupt essential services, and affect surrounding communities. Proactive patrols and visible security presence remain important in helping reduce these types of crimes.

🚨 PROACTIVE PATROLS DELIVER RESULTS 🚨

On 2 June 2026 at approximately 03:30, the Compass Tactical K9 Unit, CT77, and CT76 were conducting proactive patrols in the Belmont Bridge area following ongoing reports of trespassing, vandalism, infrastructure damage, and cable theft.

During patrols, security personnel from a nearby private property reported two individuals on the premises and requested immediate assistance.

As responding officers approached, the suspects exited the property carrying cables and tools before attempting to flee on foot.

A coordinated pursuit followed, ending near the railway tracks at Rondebosch Station where both suspects were successfully detained.

The cables and tools found in their possession were secured on scene pending further investigation by SAPS. The scene was later handed over to SAPS for further processing.

This incident highlights the importance of proactive patrols, visible security presence, rapid response, and coordinated teamwork in helping protect private property, infrastructure, and surrounding communities.
