I’ve just signed a petition calling on City Power and the City of Johannesburg to halt the forced conversion of prepaid electricity meters to post-paid billing.
This change affects thousands of households — including law-abiding solar users — and raises serious concerns around billing errors, debt, and a lack of proper consultation or Council approval.
Prepaid electricity exists to protect residents from estimated bills and administrative failures. Forcing people onto post-paid billing removes that choice and exposes households to unnecessary financial risk.
