The most meaningful part of transformation is not the point on the scorecard. It is the person who gets a real chance because someone chose to invest properly.

That is what Youth Month is about for us.

Young people do not need empty promises. They need access, guidance, experience and structures that help them grow into something sustainable. With youth unemployment still high and many unemployed young people lacking previous work experience, the gap is still very real.

Businesses have a role to play in building that bridge.

The Legal Sector Charter Council has released a clarification notice on how the YES Initiative applies within the legal sector.

In practical terms, this means legal sector entities participating in YES are encouraged to focus on meaningful workplace opportunities for young legal professionals, particularly black graduates and candidate attorneys entering the profession.

The notice highlights:
* 12-month workplace experience opportunities for unemployed law graduates
* Employment opportunities for young attorneys after articles
* Greater focus on absorption and long-term participation in the profession

Another important clarification: Training counted under YES cannot also be claimed under the Skills Development element.

This update reinforces a broader industry focus on structured youth development, employability and sustainable transformation within the legal sector.

Meaningful transformation includes creating pathways into industries where access has historically been limited.

NEW BLOG ALERT!

There’s a lot of noise right now around the proposed Transformation Fund and what it could mean for B-BBEE.

Some are calling it a simplification.

Others are questioning what it means for real impact.

In our latest blog, we unpack:
* What’s actually being proposed
* Why it’s getting so much attention
* What businesses should be thinking about now

This is not a small shift. It has real implications for how transformation is implemented going forward.

A recent conversation highlighted something important.

A business had invested in enterprise development, training and supplier alignment. The intention was clear and the effort was there.

When we reviewed their scorecard, the outcome did not reflect the work that had been done.
The gap came down to structure.

Without proper planning, it becomes difficult to ensure that spend, initiatives and reporting align with the requirements of the scorecard.

This is where many businesses lose value.
B-BBEE requires more than participation.
It requires planning, alignment and clear ex*****on.

Most businesses don’t fail at B-BBEE because they don’t care.

They fail because they plan too late.

Here’s what we see every year. Swipe through!

Sometimes you don’t realise the impact you’re already making until someone reflects it back to you.

Our MD, Janene Veldman, shared this after a recent B-BBEE verification prep session:

“We worked with a small black women-owned business that had taken in and trained young interns. They hadn’t connected it to their scorecard at all; they were doing it because they wanted to help.

When we mapped their efforts to Skills Development, it became clear just how much impact they were already making. One of those interns had secured permanent employment.

It was a reminder that a lot of meaningful transformation is already happening, especially in women-led businesses. It just isn’t always recognised or measured in a way that supports growth.

When it is recognised, it creates momentum. It opens doors. It strengthens what’s already being built.”

That’s the role B-BBEE can play when it’s applied properly. Giving structure and visibility to work that is already changing lives.

If your payroll exceeds R500,000, this is one deadline you can’t afford to miss.
The submission deadline for your 2026/2027 Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) is: 🗓 30 April 2026 at 23:59

Submitting on time allows you to claim back 20% of your Skills Development Levy (SDL) – funding that can be reinvested into your people, your business and your B-BBEE scorecard.

Here’s what you need to know:
• Submissions must be done via your SETA’s online portal
• Your ATR must reflect training completed in 2025
• Your WSP must outline planned training for 2026
• Late submissions generally result in loss of your mandatory grant – and may lead to a zero score for Skills Development in your next B-BBEE assessment.

We’ve seen it happen. Businesses leave this too late and lose out, not because of intent, but because of timing.

Our advice: submit early. SETA systems are not forgiving under pressure.

If you need support aligning your training plan with your B-BBEE strategy or ensuring your submission is compliant and complete, we’re here to assist.

When you empower a woman, you don’t just change her life.
You change a household, a community, a future generation.

That’s the real impact of transformation done right.

B-BBEE was designed to open doors – particularly for black women who have historically been excluded from economic participation.

The question is whether that money is creating real opportunity.

Let’s address the elephant in the room.

There’s a growing narrative that B-BBEE has become a vehicle for enrichment – benefiting a few, while leaving many behind.

It’s an uncomfortable conversation. But it’s also a necessary one.

In our latest blog, Janene Veldman unpacks:
• Where the frustration is coming from
• What’s gone wrong in practice
• And why walking away from transformation is not the solution

Because when done right, B-BBEE is a lever.

Let’s run the numbers, shall we?

Did you know:
• Learnership allowances can provide up to R80,000 per learner (depending on disability status)
• Skills Development spend contributes directly to your B-BBEE score AND tax efficiency
• Certain training initiatives may qualify for additional deductions under Section 12H

That means transformation financially strategic.

The question is: Are you structuring it properly?

📩 Let’s help you unlock both compliance and commercial value.
