If your business runs through a discretionary trust, this one's worth a read. ⚖️

A recent High Court decision (Commissioner of Taxation v Bendel) has changed how unpaid trust distributions to corporate beneficiaries are treated under Division 7A.

Here's the short version:
● The ATO previously treated unpaid distributions as automatic Division 7A loans
● The High Court rejected that view, and the ATO has confirmed it will follow the decision
● Existing loan agreements still need to be maintained as is
● Division 7A and section 100A can still apply depending on your specific circumstances

Thinking about a new business vehicle this financial year? A few thresholds changed on 1 July 2026 that are worth knowing before you sign. 🚗

Here's what's different:
● Car limit for depreciation is now $69,883 - anything above that doesn't attract deductions
● GST credit is capped at $6,353, even if the vehicle costs more
● Luxury Car Tax thresholds increased to $91,661 (fuel-efficient) and $80,809 (all other vehicles)

Knowing the after-tax cost upfront helps you make that decision with your eyes open, and choose between buying or leasing with confidence.
