What a bluddy wonderful start to our second year working with the fab humans at Pink Elephants Support Network campaign.

Samantha Payne and Jennifer Tupaea and their team have worked tirelessly for the last decade to educate, provide resources, advocate for better workplace support and reduce the stigma around pregnancy loss.

We know that one woman every five minutes experiences a miscarriage, and the moment we recognise that grief, the journey gets a little easier.

We also know dads are right there with them, and they often jump straight into the support role without acknowledging their own grief.

This year, Pink Elephants have launched a Dad Support Circle, because too often in the wake of early pregnancy loss, a partner’s instinct may be to jump into protective mode, to be the anchor, handle the logistics, and keep the world from completely caving in around the family.

When we offer support to dads, we’re widening the circle of support around the whole family.

We have worked with some beautiful men on this campaign, who have been open and vulnerable sharing their stories because they want something different for other dads.

We have kicked off the campaign, with a bang thanks to Emm and Penny Potter strategic thinking, considered and gentle handling…and that all too family head down bum up attitude. Watch this space. Plenty more stories in the pipeline.

My brain is ridiculously full from a huge day listening to smart, kind, creative and dedicated humans at Canberra Writers Festival, I asked a couple of my fave authors and some lovely folks I met why they love this festival so much.

This will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone, because I’ve been talking about this for years. But, I’m so stoked to be able to say that Emm is now legally, formally, emotionally and spiritually a partner in Odette & Co.

The last four years with Emm by my side in the business have been nothing but transformational. She is the yin to my yang, the order to my chaos, the detail to my vague, the machine for my ideas, and really delivers the most fun and sassy banter on the planet.

It was a no brainer to bring Emm in as a partner, any of our clients and media pals who have met her, know her drive and ambition, it’s in her DNA. She’s a dog with a bone, a kelpie in a cattle yard, but importantly she’s got entrepreneurial blood in her veins…she was born with boss energy. In fact I think from the first year working together she was saved in my phone as Emm ‘The Boss’ Moss.

Formalising our legal agreement this week is solidifying something that has existed for years in our working style, but importantly it’s recognising the incredible contribution she makes to our clients, team and me personally.

I fu***ng love working with this woman and am so proud to celebrate her becoming Managing Director and partner in Odette & Co.

If Byron Writers Festival is Christmas, then this weekend has to be… Easter? Whatever it is, I’ve got a frothy day of brain food scheduled at Canberra Writers Festival and I’d love to see you there.

I’ve shared my Saturday picks (sadly I was too late for a bunch of the banger policy sessions), plus a couple o’ tips from a writers festival tragic:

Study the program. Seriously, get your head around it ahead of time, because there is SO MUCH ON.

Book the big names early. This one’s Canberra-specific: the headline sessions sell out, so lock those in early.

Plan for 70%. Leave plenty of buffer for stumbling into a session, because you’ll almost certainly be delighted by what you hear.

You don’t need grey hair to go. (Although gang, I AM excited to be looking a lil more legit with my emerging greys!) Younger generations too often skip out on writers festivals, IDK why the young whippersnappers aren’t jumping out of their skin to hear some of the most interesting, creative and smart people in the country.

Don’t tell anyone I said this… but you don’t need to have read the books either. Half the time I haven’t heard of the authors, let alone read their work, and that’s the joy of it. It’s all about discovery. That said, DO support the writers and buy a book if you can. Even one book counts, and an hour with these amazing humans might send you off to find their podcast or audiobook. At the very least you’ll walk away with a delicious lil nugget of insight.

Bring a notebook (or your notes app). I write profusely during sessions. I can barely read my handwriting afterwards, but the scribbles give me ideas and inspiration for months.

It’s okay to go solo! As a needy extrovert this is a curveball for me… but when you can’t really yap anyway, it’s the perfect excuse to take yourself on a solo date.

I’m a little bit excited to be back in Canberra, revisiting the halls where I nervously delivered my stump speech a couple of years ago!

Our little team are so bluddy proud to support the launch of The Rebuild, the new white paper from Humans of Purpose, out today.

When it comes to ideal clients, Melanie Greblo and her team sit right in Odette and Co's sweet spot, tenacious, clever and always willing to stick their necks out for women who deserve better.

As a Certified B Corp community and marketing consultancy, Humans of Purpose also run a not-for-profit, Humans of Purpose Academy, that builds digital careers for women facing complex barriers to employment, particularly survivors of domestic and family violence.

Since opening in 2023, Humans of Purpose has directly employed 33 women survivors of DFV and paid almost $1 million in wages.

Odette & Co led the research and development of the white paper alongside industry leaders, and today thanks to the wild hustle of bella, The Rebuild is just about everywhere including ABC Radio news bulletins, ABC News Online, 45 mentions across the Nine network, 12 News Corp titles, and 103 titles via AAP, with lots more coverage in the pipeline.

The Rebuild sets out five recommendations to close the gap between crisis response and long-term recovery:
- Dedicated research funding to map employment pathways within the DFV ecosystem.
- Industry-led good employer practice, backed by expanded government reporting.
- A national employer compact for DFV-safe employment.
- A small business DFV capability incentive.
- Funded voluntary pathways to safe, secure and sustainable employment.

As business leaders and decision makers, we all have a role to play in improving the recovery DFV survivors face.

Huge congratulations to Nicole Sergi leading a monster research project and to the rest of our beautiful team who have wrangled and pitched their hearts out. Bravo team, Emm Moss, Penny Potter, Melinda Durston and Ruby Foggo, you're all bluddy extraordinary!

Extra special thanks has to go to all of the generous industry leaders, this work isnt easy but meeting the kind and bluddy hard working (mostly) women on the frontline, gives me hope that the future will be so much brighter for those that walk this path.

Why yes it is another very proud post about this project, but why the heck not!?

Fatigued, elated and hit by a truck has got to be one of the best ways to describe the post launch high from Humans of Purpose Academy launch of The Rebuild last night.

Huge thanks to the generosity of the our incredibly talented report experts and advisors, the stunningly emotional keynote from Amy Remeikis 😴🤷‍♀️ and the panel discussion hosted by Tarla Lambert-Patel between Melanie Greblo, Jess Hill and Jane Gilmore

And wow, what a dynamic and powerful performer, ME Maryellen is - watch this space!

Seeing the labour of love that is wrangling a whitepaper over six months in print, poured over by some of the industry's brightest minds, dissected over a panel and the sparks of new relationships, ideas and paths forward for those leaving DFV has left me deeply satisfied and proud.

I bluddy love our work, our clients, I'm so grateful for the deeply rewarding nature of what we have the privaledge to do, and the flippin clever team who brings this work to life.

Thank you bella for your expertise and dilligence, Nicole Sergi for your wisdom and determination and Melanie Greblo...you've been nothing but a dream to work with.
