A standout John Coburn from the Deakin Estate.

John Coburn AM (1925–2006) was one of Australia’s significant post-war abstract artists, recognised for a distinctive visual language of bold colour, simplified organic forms and imagery inspired by nature.

Dating to circa the 1960s, Garden in the Evening is a spectacular original oil on canvas board, its deep red ground populated by stylised leaves, celestial forms and abstract shapes. Signed lower left and titled verso, the work measures 75 x 60 cm, or 90 x 74 cm framed.

Offered from a private collection as part of our Deakin Estate Auction, alongside fine art, antiques and décor.

Online now. Inspection this Sunday, 12–2pm at the Deakin residence. Full inspection, bidding and collection information can be found in the individual lot descriptions.

A colourful Australian mid-century classic.

This set of 12 Parker Furniture dining chairs brings together the distinctive Model 118 slab-back chairs and Model 119 carvers, finished in an eye-catching mix of coloured woollen upholstery.

With their clean profiles, turned cigar legs and solid timber construction, they capture the Scandinavian-influenced modernism that helped make Parker one of the defining names in Australian mid-century furniture.

A substantial and striking set for the dining room, collector or mid-century interior.

An unforgettable moment in Australian cricket history.

On 28 December 2006, Shane Warne was carried shoulder-high from the MCG by teammates Andrew Symonds and Matthew Hayden after Australia defeated England by an innings and 99 runs in the Fourth Ashes Test.

It was Warne’s final Test at his home ground, and a fitting farewell. He claimed 5/39 in England’s first innings, including the wicket of Andrew Strauss for his historic 700th Test wicket, before being named Man of the Match.

A defining image of the career of one of Australia’s greatest cricketers.

Glass rewards movement.

Turn it slightly and the colour changes. Move it towards a window and the whole piece can appear different again.

This vintage Allen Fox art glass pinch vase is a compact example of that appeal.

The pinched form introduces rhythm into the surface, catching and bending light rather than presenting a perfectly uniform silhouette.

That tactile quality is part of what makes studio and art glass so enjoyable to collect.

It is decorative, certainly, but it also invites closer inspection from every angle.

Before we popped down to the shops for the butter, there was this.

Made in Gisborne, Victoria, this early Australian Cherry & Sons T1 butter churn is a wonderful survivor of everyday rural life.

Turn the timber-handled crank and the internal mechanism agitates the cream until the butter separates, with the accompanying timber pats then used to work and shape the finished butter.

Better still, this example retains remnants of its original Cherry & Sons decals and operating instructions, and the mechanism still appears to function.

A beautifully tactile piece of Australian agricultural and domestic history.

A piece of 1990s Australian design you can actually wear.

This vintage Mambo Loud Shirt features Bruce Goold’s unmistakable ‘Roses’ design, pairing oversized scarlet roses with a vivid yellow ground in classic Mambo fashion.

Bold, irreverent and instantly recognisable, the Loud Shirts have become collectable reminders of the era when Mambo brought Australian artists, surf culture and graphic design together in one gloriously loud package.
