Please welcome Mietta Scarlett to our team! Mietta joins us as the women’s Bail Support Program Mentor for the Bail and Remand Support Program (AJA*) in partnership with Wathaurong Co-operative and supported by the Victorian State Government. Growing our team of justice staff to a team of 9!
Mietta is a proud Yamitji-Noongar woman born and raised on Wadawurrung Country. Mietta is incredibly excited to be back on Wadawurrung after fulfilling her long-held dream of working and living in a remote Aboriginal community. Throughout her career, she has had the privilege of gaining valuable experience while learning the richness of Aboriginal culture, lore and practice.
Mietta is deeply passionate about advocating alongside mob, challenging systemic inequalities and creating safe, culturally responsive spaces where people feel heard, supported and empowered.
Mietta believes the greatest privilege of this work is walking alongside people while they navigate life’s challenges while honouring their cultural identity and lived experience.
The most rewarding part of Mietta’s career has been witnessing individuals overcome barriers, building resilience and achieving goals they once thought were out of reach. She’s been fortunate enough to work with young people across Wadeye, Gunbalanya and Darwin, supporting truth-telling, resilience, wellbeing and healthy life pathways. Those experiences have strengthened her commitment to community-led practice and reinforce the importance of genuine relationships built on trust and respect. Returning home to Wadawurrung Country is incredibly meaningful to Mietta and she is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Wadamba team where she can continue advocating for community, walking alongside people on their journeys and contributing to stronger futures for mobs.
