And one pattern comes up again and again.
People are often very clear on what they want ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟโฆ but much less clear on what will actually make them happy in a relationship.
I meet people who can describe the perfect height, age range, profession, suburb and lifestyle in extraordinary detail.
But when I ask how they want to ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐น in a relationship...safe, supported, understood, admired, desired, respected...that is often where the more important conversation begins.
That is why I keep saying this:
There is a very big difference between knowing what you need in a relationshipโฆ and trying to order a partner from a catalogue.
And yes, I know that sounds a little blunt.
But sometimes it really does feel like modern dating has conditioned people to believe that choosing a partner should work like selecting car extras or pizza toppings.
People and relationships are simply not like that.
