Our founder, Mabel Abatania, was brought in as a community leader to help bring African community members to the table for a consultation focused on primary health, with particular attention to the rising rates of HIV transmission in Australia and the importance of lung cancer screening and preventative care.

Led by Carlo from the Federation of Ethnic Communities Council of Australia (FECCA) and Karina from the WA AIDS Council, the consultation created space for African communities to share how we understand these health issues, the barriers we face in accessing primary and preventative healthcare, and what meaningful support could look like.

The discussions were open, honest and eye-opening, highlighting the importance of creating spaces where communities can speak openly about their experiences, concerns and needs—and where organisations are willing to listen.

At MABATAN, we continue to advocate for meaningful community engagement and advance inclusion by connecting organisations with diverse communities through stakeholder engagement, consultation and co-design.

Inclusion is not simply about being invited into the room. It is about having the room shaped by the voices of the communities it seeks to serve.

This is September!

These are our promises for the month.

Which one will you be committing to?

August is almost over, and maybe you’re looking back wondering if you really accomplished enough.

Take it easy on yourself. 💕🫂

Not every month has to be filled with big wins, milestones and impressive progress.

Sometimes, getting through the month, showing up when you could, resting when you needed to, and simply keeping going is enough.

Be soft with yourself. Be kind to yourself.

You are not behind. You are human

You know those emails that sound perfectly polite… but somehow you can feel the pressure through the screen?😂😂😂

We’re decoding them.

Because “Just following up again” might actually mean:
“I need an update. Please. I am begging.”

Stay tuned for more email translations.
