Good info for businesses working this Easter long weekend.
01/04/2026

Good info for businesses working this Easter long weekend.

As Easter approaches, it’s a timely reminder for Queensland businesses to not only plan for the break, but to understand the wage implications that come with it.

Public holidays like Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday each carry specific entitlements under the relevant Modern Awards and the Fair Work Act. Penalty rates, loadings, and employee entitlements can vary depending on the award, employment type, and hours worked.

This is where things can get tricky.

Getting it wrong isn’t just a payroll issue — it can impact compliance, employee trust, and your overall business operations.

Taking the time to understand the public holiday calendar, your applicable award, and the correct penalty rates is essential to ensuring your team is paid correctly and fairly.

Easter is an important time for many — whether that’s for rest, family, or reflection. For employers, it’s also an opportunity to demonstrate care and professionalism through getting the details right.

If you’re unsure how the Easter holidays apply to your business or your team’s entitlements, now is the time to check — or reach out for support.

Keeping an eye on your numbers shouldn’t feel like guesswork

Financial control is all about knowing exactly where your money is coming from, where it’s going, and making sure everything lines up properly. With a few simple habits (like regular checks and cash flow monitoring), you can feel confident your business is actually on track, not just “looking about right.”

We’ve broken it down in our latest blog, including a common mistake we see with wages and how to avoid it 🔗 https://cameobookkeeping.com.au/small-business-financial-control/

Always good to be aware of declared public holidays and how they will impact staff wages. Also, it’s a cute infographic 😊

Easter is somehow just around the corner, which means lots of egg and bunny shaped chocolate, a long weekend… and public holidays!

Public holidays can be different depending on the state or territory you work in. To help with that, here’s a handy table 🐰

(p.s. you have the right to be away from work on a public holiday, AND to refuse an unreasonable request to work on one 😉)

Five years ago, when COVID hit, one of our event clients saw their entire calendar disappear almost overnight.

What kept the business afloat wasn’t luck, it was cashflow planning.

By mapping out every dollar coming in and going out, we could make clear, early decisions instead of reacting in panic. The business survived… and today it’s thriving.

Here’s the truth:
A profit on your P&L doesn’t guarantee cash in the bank. GST, super, loan repayments and timing gaps can all create pressure, even in a “profitable” business.

Cashflow planning gives you clarity, time to act, and confidence to grow.

If you’re unsure what the next few months look like financially, this one’s worth a read.

How safe is your small business online?

Cyber security isn’t just a “big business” issue anymore. More than half of small businesses now see cybercrime as a major threat, and often it’s the simple things that create the biggest risk.

• Sharing passwords.
• Using public Wi-Fi.
• Not updating devices.

There is good news though. There are free, practical resources available to help small businesses strengthen their cyber safety, even if you aren’t the most tech-savvy person around.
Taking a few small steps now could save a lot of stress later.

From 1 July 2026, payday super comes into effect. This means superannuation contributions must reach your employees’ super funds within 7 days of payday.
Now is the time to prepare. Compliance efforts will be closely monitored, with a strong focus on businesses that fail to meet minimum super obligations or ignore issues. Employers making genuine efforts to comply are far less likely to face penalties.
Our latest newsletter is packed with practical insights for Australian business owners, dives deeper into payday super and includes a snapshot of key GST obligations for employers as published on our blog.
Stay informed. Stay compliant. Stay confident.
