Jes from Yarpa had the privilege of attending the Gamuda Innovate RAP Launch on 3 June 2026. An inspiring event centred on connection, culture, and meaningful action.

A highlight was hearing from Aunty Rayma, founder and Creative Director of the Buuja Buuja Butterfly Dance Group, who shared her powerful story about how dance connects her and her people to culture and identity.

Ewan Yee, CEO of Gamuda, reflected on Australia’s reconciliation journey over the past 40 years, emphasising that Reconciliation Action Plans must go beyond a document and be embedded into everyday business practices. As he said, “It’s not out of goodwill or lip service - we want to make it our model.”

He also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with expanding into regional areas, ensuring communities and cultures that have existed for millennia are respected and not disrupted.

A huge congratulations to Matt Murphy, Eric Lesa, and the Gamuda RAP Working Group for their dedication and hard work in achieving this important milestone.

Thank you for the invitation, it was an event I’m/we were grateful to have been part of.

Produced in partnership with First Nations Films, the concept and script were developed in-house by Yarpa’s Multimedia Officer, Tom, with the film featuring Yarpa staff and members from across our community.

From business support and mentoring to industry connections and procurement pathways, Yarpa is committed to supporting First Nations businesses at every stage of their journey.

We recently had the privilege of travelling to Manilla, NSW on Gomeroi Country to spend time with BLAK Print and capture the story behind their growing business.

Did you take part in our Muru Yulang program? Let us know in the comments ⬇️

Yarpa is celebrating the success of Muru Yulang (Path of Opportunity), an initiative designed to increase opportunities for First Nations businesses within local government procurement.

Delivered by Yarpa, a business unit of the NSW Aboriginal Land Council, Muru Yulang brings together Aboriginal businesses, local government and industry to create stronger, more sustainable economic outcomes for community.

Working alongside Campbelltown City Council, the project has already achieved strong results:

⬆️ Over 100 Aboriginal businesses engaged through the network
🤝 Six networking and business development events delivered
📩 Bimonthly newsletters and business spotlights launched
🎓 Delivery of Yarpa Ready, our university-certified micro-credential supporting tender readiness and procurement capability

Located within the rapidly growing Macarthur region, Muru Yulang is helping ensure local Aboriginal businesses are positioned to access opportunities connected to major developments across Western Sydney.

Yarpa Director Shannon Mallison said "economic empowerment through business ownership and success is key to Closing the Gap, with the initiative focused on creating long-term outcomes that extend beyond compliance."

We’re excited to continue building connections, strengthening capability and creating real pathways for Aboriginal businesses in our region.

Yarpa attended the 20th State of the Region Address hosted by Western Sydney Business Connection (WSBC).

The event brought together leaders from across government, business and industry to reflect on Western Sydney’s growth, discuss the region’s key priorities, and explore the vision for its future.

We heard valuable insights from Councillor Todd Carney, The Hon. John Graham MLC, and keynote speaker The Hon. Prue Car MP on the opportunities, challenges and continued momentum shaping Western Sydney.

Events like this are an important reminder of the role collaboration plays in driving outcomes for communities, businesses and the future of the region.

Thank you to WSBC for hosting another impactful event and creating space for these important conversations.

27/05/2026

National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared history, strengthen relationships, and continue the journey towards reconciliation.

These dates recognise two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey — the successful 1967 Referendum and the High Court’s Mabo decision.

At Yarpa, we recognise the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for First Nations peoples and businesses, while celebrating the strength, resilience and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across NSW.

Reconciliation is not just a conversation for one week of the year - it’s a shared commitment that lives in our actions every day. By learning from the past and working together for the future, we can help build stronger communities and lasting change.
