As Bartlett Manufacturing celebrates 70 years in 2026, we’re reflecting on the people who have contributed across generations.

John Bartlett, the eldest of our three owners began like all other family members working part-time after school and during school holidays, helping wherever needed. Usually as the junior John carried our products by hand to the railway station or bus depot for freight, long before trolleys made life easy!

Joining the business full-time in 1971, John learned every part of production before becoming our main Cutter and later being promoted to Production Manager in 1973.

Over his journey, John wore many hats across production, purchasing, sales, marketing, pricing, costing, blinds management and special projects. One of his final major contributions was leading the research and coordination of the Bartlett Manufacturing history book, released in 2021, telling decades of stories and preserving milestones for future generations.

After 50 years of service, John retired in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, hard work and quiet leadership.

John sits on our board of directors and is the company secretary

It is not always possible for customers, suppliers and industry partners to visit our facilities and experience the full scale of what we do.

We recently updated our corporate video, which provides an inside look at Bartlett Manufacturing’s facilities, showcasing the people, capabilities and innovation behind the products proudly manufactured right here in Ballarat, Victoria.

As Bartlett Manufacturing celebrates 70 years in 2026, we’re reflecting on the milestones that supported the continued growth of the business.

In 1970, Bartlett’s relocated to a larger site on Learmonth Road in Ballarat. The new workshop measured around 30.5 m × 18.3 m (approximately 560 m²), providing significantly more space to expand operations and support a growing team.

The new premises allowed for dedicated areas for fabric work and annex fitting, with vehicles able to access the rear of the building for collection and installation. The move marked an important step in expanding the capabilities of Bartlett Manufacturing.

🎉 Celebrating Rob’s 10-Year Milestone at Bartlett Manufacturing! 🎉

Rob began his journey with Bartlett Manufacturing in the corporate team, where he spent eight years building a strong foundation and deep understanding of our systems.

Rob played a key role in improving finance systems, driving greater efficiency, accuracy and consistency. He developed a strong understanding of costing and pricing, while supporting teams to resolve customer and supplier challenges with a practical, solutions focused approach. Working closely with IT, he became a vital link between systems and users, earning a reputation as the go to problem solver and “Excel Master”. Known for his attention to detail, Rob consistently identifies opportunities to improve processes and implement smarter ways of working.

Over the past two years, Rob has transitioned into a Sales role, where his strong foundation knowledge has enabled him to hit the ground running. Starting with tankliners and then expanding into Manufacture Under Licence products, he has continued to build sales skills across multiple product areas. His customer service has been consistently praised, reflecting his commitment to delivering positive outcomes for both customers and the business.

Rob is also our Social Club President and Treasurer, taking on both roles with dedication and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Outside of work, Rob enjoys photography and is a passionate Western Bulldogs supporter.

Congratulations, Rob, on 10 years of service at Bartlett Manufacturing

🎉 Celebrating Garry’s 5-Year Milestone at Bartlett Manufacturing! 🎉

Garry joined the Bartlett Blinds division five years ago and quickly built a reputation as a reliable and hardworking team member.

He began in the hooding section before expanding his skills into bottom rail, metal cutting and assembly, where his attention to detail and consistency stood out. When the opportunity arose, Garry stepped into the assembly bench and not only learnt the role, but mastered it, still holding the honour of being the last person to assemble 100 blinds in a single day.

Over time, Garry has grown from a quiet and reserved team member into a confident and energetic presence within the factory.

In April 2022, Garry stepped into a Team Leader role, where he continues to lead by example. He is always willing to roll up his sleeves, support the team and step in wherever needed, bringing strong organisation and leadership to the role.

Garry’s journey over the past five years is something to be proud of, and he is a valued member of the Bartlett Blinds team.

Congratulations, Garry, on 5 years of service with Bartlett Manufacturing.

Bartlett Manufacturing is proud to support Australian Made Week from 18th to 24th May 2026.

Choosing Australian Made products helps support local jobs, strengthens our economy, and backs the businesses that keep Australian manufacturing moving forward. Australian Made Week is a great opportunity to recognise the innovation, quality, and dedication behind the products carrying the iconic green and gold kangaroo logo.

We encourage everyone to look for the Australian Made logo, not just this week, but all year round, and continue supporting local manufacturers and Australian jobs.

The team at Bartlett Manufacturing would like to thank our customers for continuing to support Australian manufacturing.

As Bartlett Manufacturing celebrates 70 years in 2026, we’re reflecting on the steps that supported the early growth of the business.

In 1963, as demand continued to grow, the business moved from Ripon Street to 208 Mair Street, Ballarat, closer to the Lydiard Street railway yards where canvas supplies arrived from Melbourne.

Around this time Bartlett’s welcomed its first full time employee, machinist Alex Herrmann, earning £19.5.00 per week. The small team began expanding, with annexes carried by hand to the nearby railway station or bus depot for freight, and repaired tarps dropped from the upstairs back door into waiting utes below.
