Chevron Brands International, LLC (Chevron) and Astron Energy have entered an agreement to extend the existing Caltex Usage Rights and Debrand Agreements (URDA) for South Africa and Botswana until December 31, 2026.

Astron Energy remains Chevron’s exclusive licensee for Caltex branded retail service stations in South Africa and Botswana until September 30, 2024, after which the license becomes non-exclusive.

During the extended period from October 1, 2024, until December 31, 2026, Astron Energy will continue to re-brand the Caltex retail service stations in its network to the Astron Energy brand.

Chevron remains committed to growing the Caltex brand and reliably supplying quality fuels with Techron in South Africa and Botswana with new partners.

TRANSFER DUTY (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2023

The public is informed that the Transfer Duty (Amendment) Act of 2023 commences on 3rd May 2023. The amendment introduces the following:

• Exclusion of new allocations of tribal and state land from the scope of the Transfer Duty Act.
• Increase in the exemption threshold on transfer of immovable property by citizens from P1, 000, 000 to P1, 500, 000.
• Reduction on the rate of transfer duty by non-citizens from 30 per cent to a progressive rate of 10 per cent for the first P2, 000, 000 and 15 per cent on the excess over P2, 000, 000.
• Removal of requirements for valuation for specified transactions.
• Removal of requirements for clearance by BURS on transactions valued less than P1, 500, 000 and exempt transactions not requiring valuation.
• Relaxation of the requirement to use registered property valuers for transfers of tribal land and allowing use of local council valuations or valuations by some competent or neutral persons.
• Total waiver of Transfer Duty for transactions that are chargeable to Value Added Tax.
• Exemption of transfer duty where a parent acquires immovable property that was owned by a deceased child who had died intestate and who did not have a spouse or child.
