When's the last time you saw people in real life?

As an introvert and a hermit, I can assure you, seeing people IRL is loads of work for me. But SO rewarding, every. single. time.

I want that reward for you too. It's worth the awkwardness and discomfort.

May I invite you to find your people over these precious summer months?
(If you're in the Southern hemisphere, winter is a great time to get cozy with friends!)

If you do this, and I hope you do, would love to see you post about it. Or not.
That's totally fine.

At least write about it in your journal so you remember how much fun it was!

Riverdale Farm is a real, working farm nestled next to the downtown core of one of the world's bustling urban centers.

Get some fresh air and a healthy dose of nature in one of Toronto's hidden gems. You won't even know the DVP is just on the other side of the fence! πŸ˜‚

Practice your craft on subjects like farm animals, historical and contemporary farm structures, as well as botanical options. If you make it to the pond at the bottom of the trail, perhaps there will be some sweet turtles sunning themselves on an old log.

And if a happy little farm isn't your jam, the Toronto Necropolis Cemetery is on the north border of the park. There are gorgeous gothic tomb stones just waiting to be appreciated.

The happened this past weekend. In addition to seeing loads of gorgeous art, I was able to meet my friend and client in person.

We had a good laugh about the height difference!

David generously gifted me one of his early paintings, "Cottage."

This is meaningful because, while I haven't been with him from the start, our work together has taken him further along his journey as a professional artist. I love that I now have an piece from the start of that journey.

If you don't already, give him a follow!

Hey artist, don't let September catch you filled with regret.

If past years have left you feeling like summer passed you by, I have your solution.

Come sketch / draw / paint en plein air with us in 3 of Toronto's iconic locations this summer.
- get outdoors in our beautiful city
- visit 3 different locations
- make art
- make new friends
- enjoy the summer weather

On the 3rd Friday of each month we'll meet onsite at 10am and spend a few hours recording what we see. Bring your favourite materials and your lovely self!

Details in my link, or send me a DM!

If you're not in Toronto and want this for yourself, you can do the same in your city or town! Choose a location, invite some friends along. If you do, I'd love to hear about it.

An early career artist asked what I thought the most important thing to success in business was.

There's lots of possible answers:
A solid marketing strategy + practice
A strong portfolio
Supportive systems and processes to keep you on track
A flexible strategy you can follow and adapt as you learn
A network that is both deep and broad
Willingness to be uncomfortable, often
Making sound financial choices
Managing your time and energy

And underneath all of them:

Self-trust and courage

How would you rate your current level of courage and self-trust?

A few snaps of things I've enjoyed in May.

Truffle Cat, of course
Spring blooms
Some art I made
Notebooks
My sticker chart!

What have you enjoyed in May?

06/02/2026

Sticker charts aren't only for kids.

You, my adult friend, can also enjoy stickers every day.
As long as you do the thing.

The thing you don't want to do.
The thing you're dragging your feet on.
The thing you keep saying you'll do, but haven't done yet.

Get a calendar from the dollar store.
Grab a sticker variety pack. Dollar stores also have these. (no need to break the bank here)
Decide what you're going to do.
Give yourself a sticker each day you do it.

This is my sticker chart where I track 4 things (I'm an over achiever, you don't need to be):
1. taking a slow morning (mental health)
2. taking a walk (physical and mental health)
3. meditating (mental health)
4. taking a nap (physical and mental health)

I got to have LOTS of stickers in May!

Here's the truth: it's taken several months to get here.
When I first started using a sticker chart, there was A LOT more white space. Perseverance matters.

Luckily, I really like stickers! So I kept going.

When's the last time you used a sticker chart for yourself?

Did you know I'm a (recovering) perfectionist?
If you've been around here awhile, probably!

Quite a lot of perfection, including my own, is a safety mechanism. If we are perfect we will be safe, we will not be rejected.

And we all know that's not true. We can be perfect and still get hurt.

Our perfectionsim can have beautiful results.
And it can hold us back: prevent us from making and sharing our art, from applying to that show that feels a little out of reach, from pitching someone who feels a bit intimidating.

What if you were allowed to be imperfect and a bit messy in all of these efforts?

Guess what, you are allowed to be imperfect.
You don't have to knock it out of the park on your first try (or even your 10th)

Is there something in your work and life that you might be holding just a bit too tightly right now?

"I am a painter for the 20th century: during my childhood I lived through the revolutionary Irish movment, Sinn FΓ©in, and the wars, Hiroshima, Hi**er, the death camps, and daily violence that I've experienced all my life. And after all that they want me to paint bunches of pink flowers..."
- Francis Bacon

We are made for the times we're in.

Our time is challenging and enraging.
And people have lived through worse, and will again. It might even be us living through worse.

How do you want to respond to your time on this planet?

It doesn't have to be reflection of turmoil, like Bacon's work. It can be honoring beauty, embracing the absurd, soothing hearts, teaching children.
What matters is you choose to respond.

So, how will you respond?
