💜 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – June 15
Today, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, I find myself reflecting on where my career began.
Long before Morning Star Consulting, before leadership roles, boardrooms, strategic plans, and organizational reviews, I was privileged to work directly with older adults. Some of my earliest experiences in health care were caring for Elders, listening to their stories, learning from their wisdom, and witnessing both their resilience and their vulnerability.
Those experiences shaped not only the nurse I became, but the leader I am today.
Elder abuse remains one of the most underreported forms of abuse in our communities. It can take many forms — physical, emotional, financial, social, neglect, or violations of dignity and autonomy. Too often, it occurs behind closed doors and affects some of the people who have contributed the most to our families, communities, and society.
As leaders, caregivers, professionals, volunteers, family members, and community members, we all have a role to play in creating environments where older adults are safe, respected, included, and heard.
At Morning Star Consulting, we have the privilege of supporting organizations that serve older adults through governance, leadership development, strategic planning, policy development, and organizational capacity building. Strong organizations, ethical leadership, and healthy workplace cultures are all part of protecting those who rely on our services and care.
Today is a reminder that dignity, respect, safety, and inclusion are not optional—they are fundamental human rights.
To all the Elders who have taught, guided, challenged, and inspired me throughout my career, thank you. Your wisdom continues to shape the work we do every day.
