Like a kettle fills a cup with boiling water to brew tea, I fill aspiring entrepreneurs with energy and clarity to act.

Yesterday, I was on a call with a woman pondering a startup idea.

Or rather, many startup ideas.

She would come up with a product concept, get lost in researching it, and drown in the ocean of content seeking for an bullet-proof blueprint to build it out.

To only ultimately find out someone else is already working on this concept.

That she is too late to the game.

Frustrated, she would give up on the concept to move on to another one.

And the cycle would repeat.

I encouraged her to stop consuming content and start talking to potential customers.

At least 3-5 people to validate her idea.

The goal is to make sure the problem she is trying to solve exists not only in her imagination.

I challenged her to post an update that same night, in my Venturing Women community chat on WhatsApp.

Which she did.

“Doing it scared” as she admitted publicly.

It seems like a small step: draft a message, post it in a WhatApp group channel.

But it is a huge leap for someone who is about to start their entrepreneurial journey.

To get out of their head and start acting.

Is that you?

Make that step.

We hosted our (Ad)venture Lunch #2 for founders, investors and angels in Berlin yesterday, and what a palette of topics it was!

Here’s a sneak peek:

🔥 Many startup founders are drawn to extreme sports and self-improvement systems. What’s the root and what’s the consequence: do people interested in these topics become founders or do founders gravitate to such activities?

🔥 Breathwork, Non-Sleep-Deep-Rest and gong meditations: we shared how practicing those can positively affect our parasympathetic system, sleep, productivity levels and overall mental health.

🔥 Making choices as a founder: Going full-speed fundraising or focusing on sales? One of us spent a few months fundraising, then switched to the selling mode to see now investors chasing them!

🔥 Once we distance ourselves from the US-driven agenda and media landscape, it turns out Europe has many underestimated voices which are not as loud but are no less inspiring and motivating.

We gather every Tuesday for lunch in Berlin - a small group of startup founders, VC investors, and angels. Yes, we discuss all things startups and investment. But on top, we share everything that picked our curiosity, excited us or totally changed our world view. Hence the name (Ad)venture Lunch!

In spring, I spoke On The Up & Up podcast with Janine Vanessa Heinrich about charting the path from employee to entrepreneur. Tonight, I finally met Janine in person.

It is always an immense joy for me to get to know creators who amplify underrepresented voices and celebrate underestimated role models. Janine is such a creator which also transpires into the community she is building around her podcast. It’s bold and diverse!

Check it out:
And let me know your thoughts about that episode if you listen to it.

1. Founder brand is not a nice-to-have. It is a source of customers, partners, investors and many opportunities. It is critical for founders to establish online presence, yet most do not know how to do that efficiently, have no time or feel resistance. For many, it is daunting. I am here to offer you a blueprint and the support you need.

2. I want to publicly showcase how such an incubator can make a difference for an aspiring founder. Look at it as an ongoing testimonial and feedback loop.

“We are always a work in progress” our next guest believes.

Whether you are working on your personal development, solving problems for your employer or building your own business - there’s always room for improvement. Nadine Mezher, Co-Founder and CMO of Sarwa - a MENA-based fintech platform for personal finance management, is convinced that growth mindset is what sets a person or a team on track for success.

According to her, following your passions, measuring outcomes, learning and iterating to improve further, helps both to move forward in new endeavours and to develop true mastery of the things you are already good at. And she can back it up with evidence from her experience as a human, a professional, a founder and a mother!

Founders have to navigate uncertainty on a daily basis. There are many things you do for the first time, plenty of lessons to learn and of decisions to make - and it can feel overwhelming. What if you don’t have all the right answers? What if you make a mistake?

“Once you try to do the things that feel scary, some of them work out and you start to surprise yourself: if I could do that, what else am I capable of?” - reassures Alina Bassi in our latest episode.

What was your pivotal moment as a founder, what made you go from “What if I can’t do it?” to “What if I can?”?

“The most important thing at the start was to find founder friends, I didn’t know I needed them to start a company” - reflects Alina Bassi in our latest episode.

A support system of fellow founders going through similar experiences can be life-changing. You can share experiences, uplift each other and bring that human connection into a challenge of building your own company. Accelerators are one of the places to bring founders together, and Alina found them quite helpful in building her own network.

Have you participated in at least 2 accelerator programs? We are looking for female founders in Berlin who are ready to share their experience on our podcast and join a live panel recording in late July - early August! Drop a comment if you or someone you know could be interested in becoming our guest!

Name a challenge for an early stage founder? We bet our guest had encountered it!

Not knowing where to start? Try it in a new country without speaking the local language.
Having second thoughts? Turns out, even being a subject matter expert is not a guarantee against the impostor syndrome.
Terrifying fundraising? Imagine the investor yawning during your first ever pitch.

How do you get from all that to getting picky about who you allow to your cap table? Alina Bassi has learned by doing while building her circular fashion startup Kleiderly.

“Imagine you’ve walked a certain path, it’s meritocratic. But if you know there’s a quota, is it the same? I‘m not sure it doesn’t spark self-doubt. It can be a real confidence killer, especially in the beginning of a career” - contemplates Medea Nocentini in our latest episode.

Quotas are always a controversial topic. On the one hand, women are already under enough impostor-syndrome-fostering pressure in male-dominated environments, and quotas can further reduce their confidence. One the other, when the gap is as huge and the access is as limited as it is for female vs male founders and investors, quotas can help ensure that those with resources and access put in the effort and recognize the women that are already out there.

Hear the arguments for both points of view in the episode and let us know, are you team pro- or anti-quota? Why?
