A beautiful lot from our upcoming Jewelry auction on June 18:

Lot: 1017
Artist: Haroldo Burle Marx
Object: Ring, 1970s
Material: 18k yellow gold (750), brushed finish, fantasy cut amethyst. 8.92 grams. Ring size 56. Stamped: BURLEMARX, 750.
Estimate: € 3.000 - 4.000

Haroldo Burle Marx’s jewelry is often designed for the grandest of occasions. Imagine Club Marbella or Hollywood in the 1970s! Inspired by pieces from antiquity and ancient cultures, he designed necklaces, earrings, and rings in gold set with colored gemstones, which were highly estimated by an exclusive international clientele.

His customers included Cicely Tyson, Madame Ferragamo, Placido Domingo, Natalie Wood, the Shah of Iran, Queen Margrethe of Denmark, and the Empress of Japan. In his native Brazil, state visitors were often presented with a piece crafted by him.

Haroldo Burle Marx acquired his knowledge of gemstones and gemmology during a four-year stay in the German gemstone town of Idar-Oberstein. He is one of the pioneers of artistic jewelry. Sculptural forms, abstraction, and dynamic, sometimes organic lines, as well as conceptual clarity in design, characterize all of his jewelry pieces.

This isn't her usual pose—but after all that hard work, she deserves to kick back and relax! Our design expert, Ava, has managed to acquire a fantastic private collection of rare Memphis objects for Quittenbaum, which we will be auctioning off as part of our design auction on June 18.

The collections comprises Memphis furniture, lighting, and ceramic objects by Ettore Sottsass—some of which are very rarely seen on the market; including the ‘Alessandria d’Egitto’ shelves from the ‘bau.haus II’ collection (estimated price € 9,000–12,000) and the ‘Max’ shelf (estimated price € 7,000–9,000). Among our favorites is also the “Svincolo” lamp, designed in 1979, featuring a Bacteria pattern on dark blue. The “Odalisca” totem, designed in 1967 and likely manufactured by Bitossi or Mirabili, is in excellent condition and starts at € 20,000 in the auction.

One of our standout vases from the upcoming Art Nouveau – Art Deco auction on June 16, 2026:
The serpent motif is one of the most fascinating and multifaceted motifs in Art Nouveau around 1900. Its iconographic significance ranges from a symbol of renewal—analogous to the snake’s ability to shed its skin—to an attribute of the seductive and exotic femme fatale, as seen in famous paintings by Franz von Stuck and Gustav Klimt.

Lot: 293
Designer: Charles-Eugene Thienot
Object: Vase 'Serpents', c. 1900
Material: H. 17.3 cm. Bronze, dark patina. Base signed: Ch. Thiénot (bossed).
Estimate: € 2.200 - 2.600

We’re looking forward to the “Radical Beauties” auction—featuring 256 stunning design pieces from a private collection that has been built up over a period of 40 years with expertise and passion.
American mid-century design is represented by 20 lots by Charles and Ray Eames. The designer couple had a decisive influence on the design language of the 20th century. Among the top lots is ‚La Chaise‘, an armchair designed in 1948 for a competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which was not mass-produced until 1991. Our chair manufactured by Vitra, made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, chrome-plated steel rods, and oak, is estimated at € 3,200–4,000. Early Eames models in particular are sought after by collectors for their material and tactile qualities. The ‘PAW Chair’ (Pivoting Armchair Wood) with an early Zenith seat shell is estimated at € 1,500–2,000, while the ‘PKW-2’ (Pivoting K-Wire on wooden base) is valued at € 2,000–2,500.
