Wir versteigern Objekte aus den Bereichen Jugendstil, Art Déco, Design vom Bauhaus bis in die Gegenwart, Murano-Glas, Kunsthandwerk, Schmuck, Autorenschmuck, Fotografie, moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst. Die besondere Expertise in diesen Bereichen hat Quittenbaum seit seiner Gründung im Jahr 1998 zu einem lebendigen Forum für Sammler und Spezialisten auf der ganzen Welt gemacht. Wir haben einen Käuferstamm aufgebaut, der neben Privatpersonen auch bedeutende Museen auf der ganzen Welt umfasst. An sechs Terminen im Jahr finden unsere Versteigerungen in München in unserem Hauptsitz in der Theresienstraße 60 statt. Um unser Angebot und ihre Einlieferungen einem internationalen Publikum zugänglich zu machen, veröffentlichen wir alle Objekte mit ausführlichen Beschreibungen und Detailfotos auf unserer Homepage. Weltweit versenden wir hochwertige Kataloge und veröffentlichen die Highlights der Auktionen auf diversen Social Media. Wir nutzen selbstverständlich die neueste Technik, um erfolgreich zu sein. We are delighted with the many outstanding results achieved in our design auction. With over 650 lots, the auction featured a rich selection of exceptional design pieces and rarities. As expected, Ron Arad’s “Spiral Table” and his 1992 chair “2 R Not” achieved some of the highest prices. Design from the 1990s is in extremely high demand—which is particularly pleasing to our auction house, as we have been offering pieces from this decade in our catalogs for years and are now thrilled to see buyer interest gaining momentum. Verner Panton’s colorful furniture also fetched very good prices, such as the “Kleeblatt” seating arrangement, which is sure to be an eye-catcher at the new owner’s future cocktail parties.
Quittenbaum Art Auctions also had great success auctioning off Scandinavian design: Two “9460” wall sconces made of perforated brass sheet, designed by Paavo Tynell, were hammered down at 9,000 euros after a thrilling bidding war. George Nelson’s “MAA” armchair on a “Swaged-leg” base, designed in 1954, was also fiercely contested among vintage enthusiasts. Its price climbed from 1,800 to 6,500 euros. Congratulations to the winner!

Verner Panton became one of the leading European designers in the 1960s. With a multitude of original designs, he was thus able to advance the development of modern design on an international level. If you think of the 'Panton Chair' that is still in production today, the timeless 'Flower Pots' of the 1960s or functional, sculptural objects such as the 'Living Tower', you realize the impact of his designs.

Pure energy reigns here. Figures, animal-like forms, geometric shapes, and arrows crowd the large, portrait-oriented surface. A. R. Penck developed a unique artistic language, which he termed “Standart,” consisting of symbolic signs that recur in many of his works but can never be unambiguously deciphered.
The impact of his paintings arises from the juxtaposition and interplay of forms. The basic element is the human figure, reduced to a minimum as in a child’s drawing.
Gestures oscillate between jubilation, protest, and surrender, pointing to the political and socially critical dimension of his works. Contemporary events are reflected in his art: the Cold War and the division of Germany by a wall. Born in Dresden and raised in the GDR, he was denied an academic art education and the opportunity to exhibit his work.
Beginning around 1968, he adopted the name A. R. Penck, after the glacial scientist Albrecht Penck. His friend Georg Baselitz, who had already left the GDR, and the Cologne gallery owner Michael Werner brought his works to the attention of the West. His works began to be exhibited there in 1969, and in 1972, Penck was represented at documenta 5. In the 1980s, he gained international fame as part of the so-called “Neue Wilde” movement—even though, artistically speaking, he was an outsider within this group alongside figures such as Baselitz, Immendorff, Markus Lüpertz, and Jörg Immendorff.
In the 1980s, Penck’s visual language became more condensed and erratic. We are very pleased to be able to offer a print by him in our next auction.

Quittenbaum Art Auctions is delighted to offer two significant designs by Ron Arad in its upcoming design auction on October 13: The Spiral Table (1995) and the Seating object ‚2 R Not’ (1992).
Ron Arad’s career path is a perfect illustration of the increasingly porous boundaries between disciplines. Trained in architecture and having made his name in design, he continues today to explore—through prototypes and one-of-a-kind pieces—the boundary between object and sculpture, while developing an architectural practice that is constantly evolving.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1951, he studied architecture at the National Arts Academy in Jerusalem and at the Architectural Association in London. After graduating in 1979, Arad worked briefly at an architectural firm in London. One day, he left the office for lunch and never returned. This decision marked the beginning of his distinctive career, which was shaped by an endless pursuit of freedom and unconventional paths. Arad created his first design object in 1981 by attaching pipe couplings to a Rover 90 car seat he had found at a junkyard. The Rover Chair, reminiscent of Marcel Duchamp’s readymades, shifted Arad’s focus toward the field of design. That same year, he founded Studio One Off (1981–1991) with Caroline Thorman and began experimenting with materials such as concrete and steel. With their raw, heavy aesthetic, works from this early creative period often convey a subversive approach to design, such as the “Concrete Stereo” (1983) or “Horns Table” (1985).

Register for the upcoming Modern Art auction on October 14. Quittenbaum Art Auctions will be auctioning off 170 lots of modern and contemporary art. The selection ranges from a captivatingly beautiful portrait of a woman by the Viennese landscape and portrait painter Albert Schreyer from 1919, through gestural 1950s painting, to two photographic works by the American-Mexican artist Laura Aguilar, in which landscape and self-expression merge.
Among the most beautiful lots in the auction is the large canvas painting of an atmospheric cloud formation, “Grey Light,” by Swedish artist Magnus Thorén from 2013. Major artists are also represented with graphic works—for example, Georges Braque, Marino Marino, and A. R. Penck.

With 'Flow Ever Yours', Florian Graf transforms a familiar everyday object into a poetic reflection on cycles, care, and movement. The starting point is the watering can—a tool for gardening that symbolizes the fundamental interplay between humans and nature. Water is distributed, plants are nourished; at the same time, plants produce the oxygen that humans need to live. This simple process encapsulates a principle of giving and receiving, of flowing and returning.
Graf liberates the watering can from its functional logic and transforms it into a cycle of loops, twists, and detours. The viewer’s gaze follows these movements, loses track of a clear beginning and end, and is repeatedly led back to its starting point. Thus, the sculpture appears as a kind of visual perpetual motion machine—a system that seemingly sustains itself.
The title 'Flow Ever Yours' refers not only to the flow of water but also to a continuous exchange. The sculpture can be interpreted as an image of a 'self-fulfilling prophecy': What we put out into the world returns to us—perhaps via detours and in altered form.
This concept of a cycle also finds its counterpart in the human body. Blood circulates, breath moves between the inside and the outside, and thoughts and feelings are constantly in motion. The watering can thus transforms from a tool into a symbol of a broader system in which nature, the body, and consciousness are interconnected.
Characteristic of Graf’s work is the shift from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The gardener’s familiar tool becomes the protagonist and loses its unambiguous function in favor of an open, almost organically growing form. At the same time, the connection between the garden, care, and the cycle evokes a thought that Voltaire expressed in his famous phrase 'Il faut cultiver notre jardin': We must cultivate our garden—and with it, the cycle in which we ourselves are embedded.
Flow Ever Yours is thus at once an object, a movement, and a conceptual framework: a sculpture about flow, return, and the indissoluble connection between giving and receiving.
