Lot 297
KÖNIGREICH BAKTRIEN. Heliokles I. Dikaios, ca. 145 - 130 v. Chr. Tetradrachme ø 34mm (15.89g).

💡Heliokles I was the last king of the Greco-Bactrian Empire. Shortly after 130 B.C., he was defeated by the Yuezhi nomads, who originally came from northwestern China. His depiction of Zeus is inspired by the silver coins of Agathocles, from which the epithet Dikaios (the Just) and its placement on the coin’s design were also adopted.

Lot 960

Early Khmer head with a tall cylindrical crown. Pre-Angkorian period, 6th-7th century AD (probably Chenla period). H ca. 19.5cm, with stand 27cm. Sandstone. Head of a male deity or a dignitary cult image in a strictly frontal pose. The face has softly modeled features, almond-shaped, half-closed eyes, and a finely curved, slightly smiling mouth. The strong brow ridges and the clear line of the nose are strikingly pronounced. The elongated ears with prominent earlobes suggest that jewelry was once attached. The head is crowned by a tall, cylindrical headdress (jatamukuta or turban-like form). Behind the ears are lateral, three-dimensional protrusions, which can be interpreted as remnants of hair tufts that were once worn under the crown or as components of the original headdress. With original certificate from LEK Galleries Art, Bangkok! Mounted on a stand! Fragmentarily preserved head without neck. Surface with age-related weathering, minor chips, and partial loss of material. Intact.

Larger-than-life female head with idealized features. Due to her size, she is obviously to be identified as a goddess - for example, Demeter. The roughly textured hair is classically parted in the middle and combed back. A veil covers the back of the head. In front of this veil, a curved surface is smoothly finished and features a series of peg holes. Headdress made of a different material possibly a bronze diadem must have been attached there. Nose, lips and chin bruised, broken in the neck and on the left top.
A greek original sculpture of the best period and of best quality!
