We were working with a 33 m Spider a few weeks ago.
During work machine made a big bang and stopped working, engine running but nothing worked.
Called hire company, they tried to help but it was proper broken.
I always insist operator takes climbing rope with him in bucket, (this has happened to me before personally)
As no quick fix my staff member had to exit using his climbing rope.
Mewps are great but being mechanical do fail at times.
Hire company attended site that day, where onsite until 7pm getting machine down.
They supplied a replacement next day.
Did mess up my work schedule a bit though!
Everyone safe.

Beech tree seen on a walk in Norfolk yesterday.
Not good for the tree, but its still going and has been used to note many events / relationships.

We had to remove a large sycamore tree from a private back garden this week.
It was hollow at the base and in a location close to neighbouring properties.
Staff worked hard in wet showery weather and got it safely on the ground.
It turned out to be even more hollow than we expected.
Well done all involved.

One of my guys had an run in with a low branch on a tree, did no favours to the removable bolster on one of our trucks.
Found I had run out of gas for the mig welder!!
Made a repair by cutting and bending some checker plate.
And pop riviting into position.
Quick spray with our blue and Bobs your uncle.
You have to be able to turn your hand to most tasks in our trade.
Ready for Monday👍

Scots pine we came across. This is 60 feet tall, and section above decay a about half a ton.
This is hanging over garden office with a green roof.
Top very liable to fracture.
It has a TPO upon it, so prompt application required.
Definitely a cherry picker job, we are not going to climb above that.
No alternative anchor points.

Our work is not just big trees.
A hedge job I looked at last week.
Clients gardener can not manage this, so we have been asked to reduce its height.
This will need to be done before birds start to nest.
I explained to client that the top of the hedge will look bare when viewed from upstairs windows when first done, and for some time after, until sufficient regeneration takes place to hide the exposed hedge centre where no foliage will be present. This can take time to grow back because the old bare internal wood will not shoot out, regrowth will only come from the remaining green foliage on top of hedge sides.

We will cut the new top line into the hedge face with a hedge trimmer before removing top, this will help to obtain best new top line.
