Cirencester Chamber of Commerce

Cirencester Chamber of Commerce Cirencester's local business community. Connecting, supporting & growing great businesses in & around Cirencester. Events, networking & member benefits.

Join us from £75/yr! 🤝 Welcome to the Cirencester Chamber of Commerce. We are a collection of some of the best businesses and business people in Cirencester. You may have thought we were somewhat ‘inward facing’, but as we hope will become much clearer, we are very definitely outward facing. Our members are looking forward to working with you, supplying goods or services to you, advising you, or s

imply collaborating with you if you are also in business. Our website should give you a feel for us and we hope you feel welcome. We have tried to be as personal as possible – we know people are one of the most important things we have in business, so you will see all of our members profiled here. We encourage visibility and openness, and so many of our members have taken the opportunity to enhance their profiles with video introductions produced by Cotswold TV. For those of you in Business, the Chamber provides a platform to engage with Cirencester and it’s brilliant people, and a supportive environment to grow and develop, with monthly meetings and talks from experts in various fields, plus a few socials for good measure. We also provide an important link to the wider Gloucestershire business community through our representation in the likes of the LEP and the Association of Gloucestershire Chambers and Business Groups. Our size and increased professionalism now means we are often consulted on developments affecting the town, both positive and negative, and as we regularly ballot members you will have the opportunity to contribute to the towns future. We have worked hard to develop our relationship with our media partners, and whilst membership alone won’t do it, we believe that as the Chambers’ profile and reputation grows through these associations, in turn so will our members’. Joining is easy, and we believe offers significant value for money. Have a look at the relevant sections of the website and talk to some of the existing members for feedback – if you have any questions just ask. For those of you looking for a service or supplier or adviser, you’d not go far wrong searching our directory and getting in contact. You should know that we do not vet or rate members – this is an open Chamber, but we do believe that by creating the right infrastructure and environment, we will attract and retain the good ones. Thanks for reading. Here’s to Cirencester.

Business, big ideas and a drink in hand. That's our kind of AGM.

Drinks, food and good company to round off the evening. Stay, mingle and meet the people behind the town's businesses.

You do not have to be a big company to show a young person what a career could look like. You just have to open the door.

One of the things Beacon:link is built on is a simple idea: that most young people in Cirencester have never had a proper conversation with someone who does the kind of work they might one day want to do.

This week, we want to introduce you to five local businesses that have signed up to change that, all of which work in food, drink, and hospitality.

Bibury Trout Farm Where farming, retail, and a very good lunch come together in one of the most beautiful corners of the Cotswolds.

Jesse Smith & WJ Castle Butchers A Cirencester institution. Proper craft, proper provenance, and a team who genuinely care about what they sell.

Relish Catering UK A local hospitality business that understands what good food and good service actually feel like from the inside.

The Fleece at Cirencester A working hotel with everything from events to front-of-house to kitchen operations on offer as a window into the industry.

Cirencester Park Polo Club Hospitality at its most particular, with events management, catering, and a setting that is hard to match.

All five are on the Beacon:link directory. If you run a business and want to be part of this too, the link to sign up is in our bio.

We have all done it. Walked into a room, grabbed a coffee, chatted to the person we already know, and left wondering if it was worth the drive.

Here are four things that can help shift that.

1. Come with one question, not a pitch. Think about what you genuinely need right now. Is it a supplier, a referral, or a sanity check? Let that guide your conversations.

2. Listen for the problem behind the small talk. When someone says 'it has been a busy few months', that is often the opening to something real. Ask what has been keeping them busy.

3. Follow up the same day. One message, no length required. 'Good to meet you this morning, I will keep an eye out for what we talked about.' LinkedIn is great for this.

4. Come back. One meeting tells you almost nothing. It takes three meetings and before you start to become someone people think of.

Our next Chamber meeting is our AGM why not come along. Details in the first comment

It seems that our very own BEACON is one step ahead!

We have so many talented young people in Cirencester who are not in education, employment or training and we want to give them the help they need.

Just under one million young people in the UK are not in education, employment or training (Neet).

There are businesses in Cirencester doing quietly brilliant things.

Every few weeks we shine a light on one of our Chamber members, not because they asked us to, but because we think you should know they exist.

This month: Caroline McShane and Social Honeycomb

What do you do and who do you do it for:

"I help sport, health and wellbeing businesses get their social media working properly, whether that's doing it for them or training their team to do it brilliantly themselves. My sweet spot right now is SMEs who want to bring social in-house, where I act as a sounding board, train up their person or people, and stay on hand as backup."

What will we not find on the website:

I built and sold a floristry business before this, so I've lived the small business juggle. My best value isn't a long retainer. It's the sharp, focused time: a Power Hour, an audit, a training session that means you never need to outsource again.

Caroline has been a member of Cirencester Chamber of Commerce on and off for the last 6 years and will be running a series of social media power hours, free for our members, in September and November.

If you know a business that would benefit from becoming a member or attending Caroline's Power Hour, tag them below.

Supporting young people in Cirencester comes in all shapes and sizes, as not every business can take on work experience students.

Over the next few weeks, we will be breaking down five practical, tried-and-tested ways to get involved. The best thing is that most of them need less time than your Monday morning meeting.

Save this post and see which might fit with your time constraints.

Good luck to all the students receiving their GCSE results in and around Cirencester today.

You might be heading to sixth form or college, or you may decide that school's out and it's time to investigate employment.

Whatever the future holds, don't forget that BEACON has your back when it comes to starting your career and can help with introductions to the right people.

Over the next few weeks we're sharing simple, practical ways local businesses can support local young people through Beacon:Link. From a one-off talk to taking on an apprentice.

There is no complicated jargon, no massive commitment. This is just about Cirencester helping and supporting its own.
