From a scruffy pit for a new manhole, to further foundations of the former Barbican Gate structure. Heavily truncated by modern levelling and services, the foundations survive. These represent a return of those seen previously. Once recorded they were protected under geo-textile and sand.

This week we were onsite on Monday. The recent rains allowed us to clean back the unforgiving Wealden clay under the remains of demolition tumble. We have now identified a new grave, tucked in between two buttresses. One buttress wasn't completely robbed and appears to cut the eastern end of the Grave.
We will be back onsite this Friday.

Another great day onsite yesterday, with a number of volunteers braving the forecast rain. However, we were lucky and only had the odd shower.
During the day we managed to expose a section of remaining foundation of the south-wall and a partially robbed buttress. A tiny spherical Copper-Alloy object was discovered, and this matched similar objects found inside graves nearby.
Across from the south-wall a small fragment of prehistoric pottery was recovered from levelling material that makes up the eastern church platform.

Look at this lovely un-BELLievable little finds from site on Thursday. Found by one of our volunteers Rebecca, it was a welcome break from the numerous nails that are being recovered from this context. This Bell is now being investigated and will help date the context it was found.

Despite the hot weather, we have been on site twice this week! We even had a young budding archaeologist that joins us during school holidays.
With a great team, we have been working on the remain rubble south of the church, but now focussing at the eastern extent.
Here we are slowly peeling back tumble to expose a wall footing and a number or peg tile drains. The drains are heavily plough damaged but can be traced to buttress along the south wall. They are different in style to the one found parallel to the southern wall a number of weeks ago.
We have also been lucky to find a number of glass fragments, including a tiny fragment with gold leaf. Our young archaeologist was very excited.
