Last night Hastings Museum & Art Gallery Coastal Currents thank you all who joined me on this harvest full moon for story & sound rooted in the medieval Mabinogi & the story of Blodeuwedd, woman of flowers and owls, light & dark who ignited the creative conjuring of Alan Garner centuries later for his book “The Owl Service.” Mythology is a powerful muse…

Opening the evening with the fragrant melody of meadowsweet infusion set the scene for our journey into the earthy magnetism of the Welsh landscape.

For those drawn to delve further into the Mabinogi & Alan Garner’s writing, I am brewing up a special book club exploring both Blodeuwedd’s presence in the Mabinogi & “The Owl Service” - get in touch to go on the list.

The story of Blodeuwedd will return to the museum next spring/ summer, just as the Meadowsweet is blooming…

Glastonbury ~ 20th September, 7pm 🦉 As we approach Equinox & the cusp of the liminal realms, you are invited to a ritual of story & hypnotic sound exploring mythology as muse…

“She wants to be flowers” are words from the 1968 book “The Owl Service” by Alan Garner who like many creatives was inspired by an ancient Welsh story of wild magic, owls and flowers....

Tonight we journey into this story from the fourth branch of the Mabinogi, a collection of Welsh medieval tales passed down by bards in the oral tradition and eventually recorded in the written word in the 12th - 14th centuries.

Within this story from within the depths of ancient Welsh land we will meet Blodeuwedd, a woman created from flowers.
