L&D is broken.

Not a little. Not sometimes.
Systemically.

We’ve normalised learning that looks good but changes nothing.
Workshops people enjoy but never apply.
Programmes that protect comfort instead of challenging it.
And we call it “development.”
It’s not.
If behaviour doesn’t change, it didn’t work.
If performance doesn’t shift, it was noise.
Real development is uncomfortable.
It calls people out.
It demands more.
That’s exactly why most organisations avoid it.

The festive season has a funny way of changing the pace. Meetings pause, inboxes quieten (slightly), and suddenly there’s room to think.

For leaders, this time of year isn’t just about switching off — it’s a chance to give in a different way.
Giving time. Giving attention. Giving someone space to be heard without rushing to the next task.
Leadership doesn’t always show up in big decisions or busy schedules. Sometimes it shows up in a proper conversation, a genuine thank you, or choosing to be present when the pressure eases.
As the year wraps up, maybe the real question isn’t what got done — but who you gave your time to.
