Headstock breaks are gut wrenching, but don't worry. It will live again, and play great.

It's tempting to get the glue and rough paint job I know, but they so often break again due to the other hidden cracks that open with a slight tap. Even a speed-bump in the road can do it, and forget about airplanes.

Once splined, its way stronger than new, and it'll be fully fret dressed and set up.

There's no real need to paint it as it'll be fully sealed, and everyone knows battlescars are cool.

WhatsApp text msg is best, but feel free to call during opening hrs, but I cant always pick up.

To me, my job is to help players play, and make sure they have a wide variety of options so they can choose the right one. My favourite is bringing a much loved guitar, or 2nd hand purchase) back to rude health with a stainless refret. Love it.

This is one of the high end Brian May guitars, probably best described as iconic, idiosyncratic and equally loved and feared by guitar techs.
The first thing every player says is 'massive neck' but it's totally fine. I can easily play this with as little skill as any other guitar.

23/10/2026

Many necks are uneven from side to side like this one.
Trees often grow in a slight spiral and wood is never fully straight once it's been exposed to normal domestic environments, let alone sweaty gigs.

It's not necessarily a big deal, a neck can be 'reset' straight (or more accurately the frets tops) with a fret dress, or frets removed, fingerboard flattened and then refretted.

So no need to put up with the problems, just get it sorted. If you suspect you have this issue, pop in to have it checked out (for free) and we can deal with it!

Refret on this 78 tele for James from westsidecowboyyy
Preserving the lacquer, keeping it as original as possible, ready to tour, record and travel the world! Great band, lovely people, cool guitars ❤️

It's so nice to meet people like Aoife from westsidecowboyyy , as cool and humble as it gets. Her bass had a split in the headstock and some intonation issues, & just needed a few adjustments to get it playing better before heading off around the world.
They're hopefully going to borrow the fretless from previous posts to try out in the studio, I couldn't be happier to see their success!

Still, after all these years my favourite job is to refret a tired old guitar. Loads of mojo, many years left in it, these things will easily be working at 100yrs old.

Don't let your old guitar just lie there, get it playing at its best. In my experience, a refret and maybe copper sheild and clean the elecs will really give it a new life! Dodgy truss rods can also often be sorted

The fretless + sustainiac pick up project is done... it could maybe use heavier strings, but essentially it's functioning!
As previously mentioned, the whole point is just to make different sounds, not a sales pitch (it's a PITA to make), and see what a wide array of Manchester musicians can do with it.

I can't play the thing, I need training wheels (fret markers) but I'm sure everyone else will get something out of it.

Inspired by and (that theramin like sound on Lovely Head that's actually an incredible vocal plus Korg 🤯) and others, hopefully this will be of use!

Hopefully we'll post whatever people get from it. It'll stand some improvement tbh, but for now, let's see/ hear what happens!

I get way over excited about these things, as some of you will know 😂 but once this Sustainiac Official is in, thanks to Manson Guitar Works Official inspired by the freaking mind blowing Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal I'm finding a cave to disappear into and play this thing.

Plugged into my amp thankfully revived by Manchester Pro Audio Ltd here in STS Touring Productions Ltd Tour Supply UK it's genuinely a new level in possibilities to guitar playing to me.

This'll be my first blast on this thing... then its doing the rounds with some awesome Mcr musos to see whats what...
