Kidvelo Bikes UK

Kidvelo Bikes UK Premium quality bikes that are affordable & for varying abilities. Ages 18 mths - 9 yrs. We may be a new brand, but we aren’t new to the industry.

Kidvelo Bikes specialise in high-quality, lightweight balance bikes that convert into pedal bikes, offering a seamless transition for young children learning to ride. Kidvelo® Bikes is a new speciality designer and manufacturer of kid’s balance bikes. Anthony and Nicole Kotarac in Australia, alongside Gary and Karen Wood in the UK, spent 10 years distributing balance bikes in their respective coun

tries. Years of teaching kids to ride, racing toddlers, and time spent with riders and their families gave us the know-how to design exactly what the kids need. By putting all the lessons learned over those years, into designing the perfect balance bikes, in 2019, we started work on Kidvelo - our next-generation design of balance bikes. We took what worked, removed what didn’t, and created a bike that does the job, superlight, robust and durable, designed to fit through years of a child’s growth. Family is at the heart of our small business and our children the test riders. Our aim is to provide top-quality bikes straight to our customers at affordable prices. With a small team, we keep costs down, quality high, and exceptional customer service. Kidvelo scrutinizes and purposefully selects every tube, angle, weld, and component on their bike line to ensure a balanced, responsive ride for every kid. Our balance bikes offer the most comfortable riding position. Super-light bikes enable kids to ride with less effort and manoeuvre the bike with ease and greater control. Threadless sealed headsets, kid-specific saddles, small-diameter grips, handlebars, protective sealant under lead-free paint to prevent dents, dings, and rust, and withstand the use and abuse that kids are well known for. All this comes in a brightly coloured, lightweight aluminium frame so kids can fall in love with biking just as you did.

Choosing a children’s bike by age alone can easily lead to the wrong fit.

The measurement that really matters is your child’s inside leg. On a balance bike, they should be able to sit comfortably with both feet flat on the ground.

That gives them the stability and confidence to push, glide and stop safely.

Kidvelo starting inseam measurements:

🚲 Rookie 12 – from 30 cm
🚲 Rookie 14 – from 40 cm
🚲 Rookie 18 – from 48 cm

Not sure which model is right? Our bike size guide will help you measure and compare:

If your child is just under the minimum, talk to us. You can slightly lower our minimum inseam measurements for experienced balance bikers.

Why does a lighter bike feel easier?

Because for a child learning to ride, every little bit of effort matters. Starting, steering, and stopping can all feel like a lot at first, especially when they are still building confidence and coordination.

That is why lightweight design matters so much. When the bike feels easier to move, kids can focus less on wrestling the bike and more on actually riding it.

You see it straight away with the Rookie 12. It is light enough that the first push off feels less daunting, and the steering feels more manageable in those early wobbly moments. For many parents, that is the difference between a child giving up after a few metres and a child wanting another go.

And that matters more than people think.

A bike that feels heavy can make every start feel like hard work. A bike that feels lighter gives a child more control, which usually means more smiles, more practice, and more progress.

That is the real win. Not chasing the lightest possible number for the sake of it, but choosing a frame that makes riding feel approachable from day one.

If you are choosing a first bike, look at how it will feel in your child’s hands, not just how it looks on paper.

Choose control.

How do kids start riding well?

Choose a first bike that grows with skill, not just height.

Kidvelo helps little riders move from balance confidence to pedal power, so the bike fits the learning stage, not just the body.

That means fewer hassles for parents, and a smoother first ride for kids.

A child’s first bike should make progress feel easy.

If every step on the bike feels like a fight, the bike becomes the problem.

That’s why fit matters. We've poured years of balance-bike experience into Kidvelo Bikes.

A well-set Kidvelo helps with:

• smoother turning
• easier braking
• less frustration for small riders
• more confidence from the very first ride

A few small tweaks can change how the bike feels straight away.
Everything you need is in the box and when your child is ready, the same bike can grow with them from balance to pedals, without starting over.

Skill Development from balance to pedals, all on one bike.

The size bike guide will help you, or let us know if you need help.

Kidvelo isn’t a bike created in a boardroom.

It grew from years of helping real children learn to ride and seeing where traditional children’s bikes made that journey harder than it needed to be.

We designed the Rookie range to be lightweight, confidence-building and suitable for children learning at different ages and at their own pace.

That means starting with feet safely on the ground, developing balance and control, and adding pedals only when the child is genuinely ready.

We’re still a small family business, and helping a child experience that first independent ride never gets old. 💛

Thank you to every family who has chosen Kidvelo and shared part of their learning journey with us.

Parents, we’d love to know: what stage is your child at right now? 🚲

A. Walking along while sitting on their bike
B. Beginning to glide
C. Coasting with their feet up
D. Learning to use the brakes
E. Ready to add pedals
F. Riding independently 🎉

Every child’s journey is different. Some move through the stages quickly, while others need more time to build confidence and both are completely normal.

Tell us their stage in the comments. If you’re unsure what they should practise next, we’ll be happy to help.

For some ideas on how to keep learning fun, read our tips over on the blog!

The smallest design details can make a big difference. 🚲

Take the way our pedal kits fit the Rookie 14 and Rookie 18 convertible balance bikes.

The pedal unit sits securely against the bike’s frame and is held in place by two strong bolts that pass right through it. This means the frame supports the unit and the forces created as your child pedals.

There are no bulky brackets hanging underneath the bike, so valuable ground clearance isn’t unnecessarily reduced.

It’s a simple, strong and carefully considered design, making the change from balance bike to pedal bike safe, secure and straightforward.

Because a convertible bike shouldn’t feel like a compromise. It should be properly designed for both stages.

The little details that we build into our bikes to help a first ride feel steadier usually look invisible at first.

Our lower centre of gravity helps keep the bike feeling planted, while a lightweight frame makes it easier for small hands to steer, start, and stop without extra effort.

Our wheelbase (distance between the two wheels) is longer, giving a growing child more room.

A massive seat post height range ensures it lasts longer.

The bit parents notice fast: less wobbles, less strain, more confidence on day one.

Comment with your child’s age and we’ll help you choose the right fit.

The best first bike doesn’t just fit a child. It helps them feel in control from the very first ride.

Look for a low, stable feel, a lightweight frame, and an easy way to adjust the fit as they grow. That’s what turns wobble into confidence, and confidence into real progress.
