Ever avoided looking at your competitors because it makes you feel sh*tty about yourself?

Ever gone through the process of culling your IG feed because you can’t deal with looking at them anymore? (all fair and valid)

I have talked about competitor analysis on here before.

It’s a great way of really getting to see where you sit amongst your industry, and what opportunities surround you. The key is - how do you do it without feeling like utter garbage?

Well, I’ve been giving the amazing opportunity to partner with Similarweb - a tool I’ve recommended for doing competitor analysis FOR YEARS.

It’s a platform which enables you to look at competitors and be purely focused on the positives, the gaps, the inspiration.

No more comparisonitis, just data and patterns - meaning you can come away with ideas for how to move forward!

This week 🤯

I started hosting the Big Brew events as part of my marketing strategy because I think it’s really important to bring people together. Events have always been part of my working world, and I know how impactful they can be, especially when you KNOW people in your world need a bit of a boost.

And good lord, the feedback from yesterday has been amazing!

To get this event up and running I had to:

- send a tonne of message invites
- direct email people the link
- send a weekly email to my list
- post weekly on social (IG and LinkedIn)
- talk about it everywhere I went networking in Yorkshire
- arrange great speakers and help them know how to promote it

It takes a lot of work, and is definitely an investment, but when someone comes up to you after and says ‘it’s the best networking event they’ve ever been to’ - I know I’m winning.

So here’s my debrief, and if there’s anything you want to know about hosting events like these, let me know your questions in the comments👇🏻

The countdown is officially on⏰

It’s less than a week to go until The Big Brew which means:

☕It’s less than a week until the sweet sweet nectar of caffeine is fuelling our good chats

📣It’s less than a week until Jim Ker, Vicky Zaremba and Ashleigh Brumpton join me for our panel “Beyond the BS: What it Really Takes to Build Brands That Give a Damn”

🥐It’s less than a week until you catch me with pastry flakes on my cheek while chatting

And even more, it’s less than a week before we’re having some bloody good chats about good business.

If you don’t have your ticket yet we still have a few available, comment BREW and I’ll send over the link!

May feels like it’s come and gone so quickly. I feel like the sunshine tricked us all and now we’re flying into June at full speed without an ice cream in hand. What’s that about?

And with that in mind, it’s round-up time.

May’s been a month of ticking off bitty jobs:

✅ writing my PR bio
✅ pooling my podcast hit list
✅ deciding the stories I want to pitch
✅ watching and webinars
✅ pitching myself to speak at an event

While it’s felt like I’ve had to just crack on this month, it’s proven to me how much easier it is to tick off the list when you actually don’t have much time to do it in. Messy action!

And so in June I’m craving a bit more focus. Here’s everything I’m going to work on:

➡️ prep my summer campaign
➡️ write my speaker page on my website
➡️ send out one pitch per week
➡️ host The Big Brew

What’s on your marketing to do list this month?

F**k sounding the same as everyone else

F**k doing things because you’re told you ‘should’ or ‘have to’

F**k spending our entire lives watching other people live their lives through a screen

F**k giving up on having amazing life experiences, and creating memories with other people

F**k not asking why enough

F**k challenging the norm because it’s ‘safer’

F**k building something you don’t absolutely love

F**k working your butt off for a system that doesn’t work for you

F**k not trying something you’re excited about because someone might comment something stupid

➡️ You are allowed to do things YOUR way, and build a business that you’re excited by, proud of, and passionate about.

I am sick to the back teeth of hearing the podcast bros and girlies dictate how you should and shouldn’t be spending your time, money and energy, when they know not an ounce about you and what makes you special, what makes you excited, what makes you happy.

You have built a business because you have a dream about what your life looks like, what the world around you looks like - you live your dream and do the thing.

So you’re also allowed to question why things work the way they do. You’re allowed to show up in different ways, to try new things, to say no to something you’re not comfortable with.

You’re allowed to switch off from the noise. You’re allowed to innovate and create and explore.

Who wants to sound the same/do the same as everyone else anyway? It’s boring. F**k boring.

I was asked recently what my goal with The Big Brew is, and truthfully, it took me a minute to get to the answer.

➡️ Because we need it

The sustainable business community, the marketing world, small business founders - it can feel a bit like a slog.

Are you doing the right thing?
Are you showing up in the right rooms?
How do you rally people around you when the world is in chaos?
How do you get people to care, to do something, to buy?

Whether you’re in the sustainable world trying to bring more people along with your mission, or you’re a marketer trying to figure out how you can do more impactful projects, or you’re a business founder trying to understand how to run a ‘good business’ - the exact same conversations are happening.

But there’s so much you don’t know when you just don’t know!

Over time, I’ve realised that when you get people in a room together over a good brew to chat, listen, share - that’s where you can make the real magic happen.

We’re craving it - getting together to have proper chats, proper laughs. We need it in the world, because there are so many good ideas, opinions, and perspectives.

So, thats my goal with The Big Brew👇🏻

To bring good people together in a room over a good brew and baked good; listen to some epic speakers share their experiences; and leave feeling inspired.

What more could you want on a Wednesday morning?

PS - if you don’t have your ticket yet, our next event is 10th June. Comment BREW if you want to join us and I’ll send over more info☕️

You have your own business, your own goals, your own ways of thinking, your own ways of working, your own reasons for doing your thing.

You are also allowed to market your business your way.

You’re allowed to be creative, to try adding new layers to your strategy, to create your own marketing routine, to experiment with tactics you see none of your competitors using.

Because it’s your damn business.

Marketing should and has to work for YOU🥳
