You can now download the scripts from The Slate project.

To register your interest in being involved with a production please email [email protected]

State your top three preferences. For example, 1 - DOP / Welcome to the Yurt, 2 - Sound Recordist / Unpacking, 3 - Gaffer / Bike Park.

You can apply for three different positions on the same project or spread your choices across the project.

We can’t guarantee a position due to the amount of responses we may receive but we will try to get one of your preferences.

Tonight we will be joined by Marcus Joseph (Welcome to the Yurt), Yasmine Bywater (Unpacking) and Anna Walsh (Bike Park) for three short Q&A's covering the scripts currently in development for The Slate project.

If you are interested in being a part of the crew for the production phase of these ethically collaborative films, come along this evening to discover more.

You will have an opportunity to ask your own questions as part of the Q&A or during the networking session directly after.

Are you based in Leicester or Leicestershire and would like to be involved in a short film production?

Join us in the Terrace Room at Phoenix on Thursday 24th September to hear about three projects currently in development with The Slate and learn more about the process of assembling the crew for these productions.

Writers Yasmine Bywater, Marcus Joseph, and Anna Walsh will discuss their scripts followed by an opportunity for the audience to ask any questions they may have. You will also have the chance to declare your interest in taking part on the crew of these three exciting short films.

The Slate is open to people of all levels of experience (including none). We encourage you to bring along your enthusiasm and see which project ignites and engages you!

Short Platform returns to Phoenix on the 10th September to screen eleven amazing independently made short films.

Our eleventh featured film is Meat Cute written and directed by Graeme Tait.

Gavin hosts Leon, an emotionally cold stranger he's met online. After dinner, Gavin attempts small talk with Leon, whose tolerance for pleasantries is limited. Something sinister lurks beneath the conversation.

The film was shot in Markfield, Leicestershire, on a £350 budget over 2 nights in March 2026 with a tiny crew of 3 people. Distinctly shot in 4:3 to convey a sense of claustrophobia, the film touches on the themes of loneliness and the misguided attempts to form connections that lead to creating more harm than good.

Our tenth featured film is Surrendered created by Marie-Josée Deshamais

Surrendered is an experimental short film exploring psychological pressure, dissociation, memory, and survival through embodied perception. Rather than following a conventional narrative structure, the film uses fragmented images, repetition, restrained narration, sound, and sensory disruption to evoke an internal state that resists straightforward representation.

Short Platform returns to Phoenix on Thursday to screen eleven amazing independently made short films.

Our ninth featured film is What’s Trending? written and directed by Janki Odedra.

A teenager while scrolling finds her identity changing and shifting under the effect of influencers.

This is Janki’s first short film. They shot it on their phone and edited it themselves. They used their local environment as locations and managed to film it all for free.

A s*x worker caught in the grip of drug addiction becomes the subject of a band's haunting performance. As the lead singer follows her through the night, the film explores the inescapable cycle of addiction, exploitation, and despair that defines her life.

While wandering alone in a park, Reed sees a bare winter tree transform before his eyes giving him an unexpected reminder of the cycles of change, renewal and hope.
