Short Platform returns to Phoenix on the 10th September to screen eleven amazing independently made short films.

Our fifth featured film is Of All The Things written by Maria Galliani Dyrvik and directed by Steff Lee.

Ava remembers her childhood home as a place full of amazing things and adventures. The day she returns home from university, however, everything changes: what used to be a treasure chest has become an oppressive box, and her mother’s things and fear of letting go overwhelm their home and their relationship. By dipping into memories and sharing a
moment in time, can mother and daughter reach an understanding?

Of All the Things is an animated short film, completed in 2025 with support from BFI NETWORK and National Lottery funding. It explores the complexities of a mother-daughter relationship shaped by hoarding disorder, offering a fresh perspective that fosters understanding, connection, and greater awareness of this often-stigmatised condition.

Our fourth featured film is Burnt Ch*****ne written and directed by Sherrie Edgar

Infused with wisdom and glamour, capturing the validation of emotion akin to a tennis match with a crushing blow. Diahann enters Esther's house, and they engage in a tense sit-down. Ultimately, this veiled interaction illustrates the complex interplay between race and class.

The cast and crew are emerging talent from the Midlands, with collective experience spanning documentary, theatre to commercial work. Their previous credits include collaborations with BFI, BAFTA, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

Our third featured film is Lights, On written and directed by Georgie Cubin

A teen becomes convinced his house is haunted as appliances seemingly develop a mind of their own. While trying to enjoy a late-night film, he is interrupted by the TV and lights repeatedly turning off and on again. What supernatural forces are attempting to connect with him in the night?

Our second featured film is A Healthy Diet written and directed by Paloma Zhu.

One man prepares the ultimate healthy smoothie. Another devours a fast-food feast. This is not a love story.

A healthy diet was made with zero budget and a small crew of self-taught, first-time collaborators. With no dialogue, the film leans on visual storytelling and comedic timing. It balances absurdity with a gentle reflection on modern lifestyle culture. The filmmakers hope it leaves audiences with a smile and something to think about.

Our first featured film is The Sale written and directed by Arif Ali.

Harry, a door to door salesman with no luck in sales is working overtime. Just when he expects nothing to happen, Craig drags him in to his house to show him the the man he killed.

The premise came from Arif's first job in sales spending hours in the cold with terrible luck and met by some interesting characters. Some of them would invite you into their homes so he thought, what could be the worst-case scenario?

Would you like to get involved in the productions being pitched for The Slate?

Following the deadline for pitches for The Slate, PLATFORM's pitching session will take place upstairs in the Terrace Room this Thursday 30 July at 6.30pm.

This will be your chance to hear the eleven ideas that have been selected following our open call. The pitches will be presented to the room, including a panel made up of at least three industry professionals.

Audience members will have the chance to vote for their three favourite projects.

Each pitch will be 5 minutes and to ensure every shortlisted project has the same opportunity to present, there will be no questions during the pitching event.

Following the pitching session, three of the eleven ideas will be taken forward to the next stage of The Slate. The panel's assessment and the audience vote will both be considered as part of the final selection process.

We look forward to you joining us for an evening of exciting pitches from the PLATFORM community.

Tickets to the pitching event are free and available here:
