Ever get to Friday and wonder how you’ve been busy all week, but somehow the important stuff still hasn’t been done?

When you run your own business, it’s incredibly easy to spend the week reacting. An email lands, a client needs something, a meeting overruns, an unexpected job crops up and suddenly the plans you had on Monday have disappeared somewhere under everything else.

A simple weekly reset can really help. Take 20 minutes to look back at what worked, decide on your three main priorities for the week ahead and, importantly, leave some space for admin, thinking and the inevitable things you didn’t see coming. Then look at that plan and ask yourself another question, how much of it actually needs to be done by you?

Running your own business can be hugely rewarding, but there’s also a side to it that people don’t always see.

The emails you need to reply to, invoices to send, appointments to remember, social media to keep up with, clients to look after and the endless list of things you really must get round to. Even when you’re not physically working, your brain can still be running through that list.

For World Mental Health Day, it’s a good reminder that the mental load of running a business can be just as exhausting as the work itself. You don’t have to do everything personally for your business to be successful, and sometimes handing over a few of those jobs can make a surprisingly big difference.
