Wildflowers: why they matter! 🌼🌻🌱🐝🐞
Over this bank holiday, you may be using the extra time to get out and tidy your gardens up. While we all love a neat and tidy garden, it is also important to recognise the wildflowers that may grow and why we need them.
💡Did you know that all flowers found in our gardens have been bred specifically for certain features, but they all actually originate from wildflowers?
Wildflowers and wildflower rich habitats e.g. meadows, are vital to provide valuable support for insects and other wildlife. Pollinators, such as bees, butterflies and many more rely on wildflowers as a vital source of food. But unfortunately, wildflowers are under threat as over the last 70 years there has been a shift towards larger-scale and intense farming combined with increasing urbanisation which has led to the destruction of wildflowers habitats across the UK.
Remember...
🌼 More wildflowers = more pollinators
🐝 More pollinators = better, healthier crops for us
