Heading into a long weekend is a good test of how well your business is really built.
If everything runs fine while you're offline, that tells you your systems, people, and processes are solid. But if things start to wobble the moment you're unreachable, that's not a sign your team can't cope — it's a sign the knowledge lives in your head instead of on paper.
The fix isn't working longer hours or checking your phone poolside. It's documentation. And not just "what we did" — the reasoning behind it. Write down the decision, not just the outcome. Explain why you chose one supplier over another, why a client gets handled a certain way, why a process runs in a particular order.
When the "why" is captured, anyone on your team can step in, make the same call you would, and keep things moving — without needing you.
That's what a business built to scale actually looks like.
