Knife Crime Awareness Week.

Knife crime continues to impact individuals, families, businesses and communities across the UK. Retail workers, night-time economy staff, BID teams, security teams and frontline employees are often among those exposed to the reality of violence and aggression.

According to the Office for National Statistics, there were over 49,000 offences involving knives or sharp instruments recorded across England and Wales in the year ending December 2025.

In the South West alone, Avon and Somerset Police recorded more than 1,600 serious knife-related offences, accounting for almost half of all recorded offences across the region.

Behind every statistic is a victim, a family and a community affected.

Following yesterdays incident, the UK’s national terror threat level was raised to SEVERE.

A lot of people will see that headline today, but many won’t fully understand what it actually means operationally.

“Severe” means an attack is considered highly likely. It does not mean an attack is imminent, but it does trigger increased activity behind the scenes from multiple agencies and stakeholders across the country.

The decision is made independently by JTAC (Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre), working alongside intelligence provided by , Counter Terrorism Policing and wider national security partners.

We’re already seeing additional policing measures, increased intelligence activity, heightened monitoring of venues, transport hubs and public spaces, and wider reviews of protective security arrangements nationwide.

Within the private security sector, this also has a direct impact.

At CR2 Security, we are currently reviewing and updating our terrorism response procedures, escalation processes and emergency planning measures in line with the continued rollout of Martyn’s Law and evolving best practice guidance.
