Swansea Business Improvement District Private sector managed/lead company elected by the Businesses to help make Swansea City Centre a better place to shop, visit, work, stay and do business.

Swansea Business Improvement District (BID) is a private sector lead and managed not for profit company. It was the first BID in Wales created back in 2006. Due to the pioneering efforts of Swansea BID, more BIDs have now been created pan-Wales. Since 2006 we have secured two renewal ballots and currently in our third term which will run until 2021. Businesses/organisations within the BID area wil

l again be asked to vote YES/NO in 2020/2021 if they wish for the Swansea BID company and its operations are to continue for a further 5 years. Swansea BID is in the top 20% of BIDs in the UK having secured and maintained British BIDs National Accreditation which is awarded based on management and performance. The overall objective of the BID is to make the City Centre a better place to shop, visit, stay, study and do business. We deliver this overall objective through five areas of focus-

INCREASING | CREATING | PROMOTING | IMPROVING | DEVELOPING

Car Parking & Transportation offers INCREASING visitor/shopper numbers. Safety & Security operations CREATING safer and more secure visitor/shopper and trading environment. Marketing & Events PROMOTING the City Centre and delivering a programme of events and promotions attracting visitors shoppers using our The Big Heart of Swansea consumer brand. Cleansing & Enhancement IMPROVING the physical visitor/shopper and trading environment. Commercial Business & Facilitation further DEVELOPING a strong recognised and respected business voice, recruit new and support existing businesses through reduced business costs/bottom line and providing advice/guidance on training, networks and grants. Like any business growth is important, so additional projects that further support and benefit the City Centre Businesses, economy and vibrancy of the BID area are reviewed within the constraints of the BID income providing the BIDs aims/focus are adhered to.

๐Ÿ–ค Today, Swansea pays tribute to the legendary Bonnie Tyler. Her funeral takes place at midday at St Mary's Church, with a screen showing the service in St David's. Details of road closures are on our page, but please be mindful that it'll be busy this afternoon.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Student Shopping Night is back! It'll be taking place on Tuesday 6th October this year in the Quadrant and Swansea Market, and if you'd like to be involved as a business, please let us know by the end of this week.

โ˜Ž๏ธ Due to the warm weather we've had recently, we've seen a slight rise in street drinking and anti-social behaviour. In order to help the police and the rangers tackle these issues, we urge you to please report any instances that you see. This could be through SentrySIS, or by calling the BID number (01792 475021) and reporting via our Crime Line. Reporting is key - if the incident isn't reported, then nothing can be done about it.

Following the sad passing of Bonnie Tyler, hereโ€™s some important information about the funeral arrangements and temporary road closures.

๐Ÿ“† Saturday 15th August

Members of the public are invited to line Newton Road, Mumbles as the cortege travels from William Pressdee Funeralcare on Stanley Street at around 3.15pm, continuing onto Mumbles Road.

A temporary road closure will be in place on Newton Road from approximately 3pmโ€“4pm, including the suspension of parking bays. Buses will be permitted through where safe to do so.

Road closures will be in place from 7amโ€“approximately 3pm around:

๐Ÿ“ St Maryโ€™s Square / Whitewalls
๐Ÿ“ St Mary Street

Access to the city centre core pedestrianised area will remain available until approximately 10.30am, subject to safety considerations.

The service at St Maryโ€™s Minster is primarily for invited guests, with limited public access possible depending on capacity. For those unable to enter, the service will be broadcast live on a large screen at St Davidโ€™s Place.

Please allow extra time for journeys and plan ahead if travelling through the affected areas.

BID Update โ˜€๏ธ

Duggie is at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Swansea today, who are delighted to announce that they are once again able to host corporate events and large-scale celebrations, with capacity for up to 300 guests in their stunning seafront setting!

Duggie also chats through a range of opportunities available through BID, from free British Sign Language courses, Personal Licence and First Aid training, right through to grant funding drop-in sessions.

The new multi-storey car park is also now open, creating some fantastic opportunities for businesses looking for prime city-centre commercial units, located directly on Cupid Way, the direct link to the Swansea Building Society Arena.
