🥂 Silver never tasted so good! 🥂

We're delighted to share that, for the second year in a row, our sparkling wine has been awarded a Silver Medal at this year's Independent English Wine Awards.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the awards, with a record number of entries from producers across the country, making the competition stronger than ever. To come away with a Silver amongst such fantastic company is something we're incredibly proud of.

The judges described our sparkling wine as 'well-crafted' with notes of apple, pear and light pastry, praising its fine mousse, balance and traditional method character. They also highlighted its elegant structure, refreshing finish and the complexity that comes from careful winemaking and patience.

A huge thank you to the judging panel, to everyone involved in the awards, and to all of you who continue to support Wellhayes Vineyard. Whether you've visited us, shared a bottle with friends, or simply followed our journey, you're part of the story too.

Now, if you'll excuse us, we think this calls for a glass of bubbly… 🍾 Cheers!

A big milestone in the vineyard, pruning and tying down are now complete ✂️🍇

It’s been a real race against the clock this year. The vines have burst into life far earlier than usual, sitting around 2–3 weeks ahead of where we’d normally expect them to be. That made the tying down especially delicate, with fresh growth already pushing on as we worked our way through the rows.

Everything is moving quickly out there, and it’s hard not to be reminded of 2014, the last time we saw such an early start, which went on to produce a fantastic vintage for English wine.

For now, our biggest concern is the risk of a late frost, but we’re staying hopeful. If the season continues kindly, this could be the start of a truly exceptional year for Wellhayes Vineyard 🍷

Last Tuesday, we were incredibly proud to take a little piece of Exmoor to the heart of government 🇬🇧

Wellhayes Vineyard joined a fantastic group of local businesses and organisations at Westminster for the Flavours of Exmoor reception at the House of Parliament, kindly hosted by Rachel Gilmour MP.

🥂 This special event brought together producers and partners to showcase the strength, quality, and diversity of Exmoor’s food and drink on a national stage. We were in wonderful company alongside Visit Exmoor, Exmoor National Park, Exmoor Distillery, Black Bear Brewery, Exmoor Game School, the Hill Farming Network, and Exmoor Tea.

It was especially inspiring to see two finalists from the 2025 Exmoor Young Chef competition in attendance, highlighting the exciting future of hospitality in our region.

🍾 It was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate everything our landscape has to offer, while also opening up important conversations about the challenges facing our industries.

📍 Exmoor has so much to be proud of, and we were honoured to be part of sharing its story.

Saturday 11th concert saw a very full (literally bursting at the seams!) audience enjoy Gary Cooper, an outstanding musician and pianist who now lives on Exmoor, give a memorable performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The effect on the audience was so compelling that, for the first time for a long time, many members of the audience had to retire to the bar for a drink to unwind after the performance before they could even contemplate leaving! It was a great way to set the scene for the reminder of the concerts still to come at Wellhayes Vineyard this year! 🎶🍇

🎼 May 9th - Madeleine Mitchell and Clélia Iruzun (Violin and Piano Recital
🎼June 19th - Ivana Gavric (Piano Recital)
🎼 July 11th - Meera Maharaj & Lucy Nolan (Flute & Harp Duo)
🎼 August 8th - Linos Piano Trio
🎼 September 18th - Quatuor Agate
🎼 October 2nd - Martin Roscoe (Piano Recital)

Don’t forget, our tiered discount is still available, the more concerts you book, the more you save, starting at 10% off when attending 3 concerts. We also continue to offer heavily discounted student tickets to help welcome a younger audience.

We’re also delighted to highlight a very special upcoming event on Thursday 11th June at St Andrew’s, Wiveliscombe. The Brodsky Quartet return alongside the renowned bass Sir Willard White, performing an irresistible programme featuring Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Samuel Barber. An extraordinary evening not to be missed! And even if it is not at the vineyard, we will still be serving our wine before the concert and during the interval!

If you haven’t joined us yet this season, there’s still plenty to enjoy, we’d love to see you here.
