Some wonderful pencil drawings of Dudley Castle keep made by participants at the Neuro Rehabilitation Unit at West Park Hospital today. We're looking forward to seeing these develop next week.

Also, Gary led a BSL bingo game linked to fingerspelling the letters of the alphabet. This is a great and fun way of reinforcing learning.

Supported by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity - Charity No. 1059467 and DDC Engineering.

Todays's session at West Park Hospital was a mix of BSL, foreshortening drawing and varnishing rocks for the hospital garden.

Gary decided to stay on point and teach signs for the WEATHER! The first one showing the sign for summer (we know it's not officially summer yet - but it sure felt like it today!! 😂😎🌞)

Then Alex led a session about the meaning of 'foreshortening' and how it has been used in paintings, drawings and photography over time. The participants did some lovely foreshortening drawings and we had a brilliant discussion about it, especially focused on how the Salvador Dali painting of Christ of St John on the Cross brought back a personal childhood memory for one of the people in the group. An example of art breaking through barriers and connecting with people.

These sessions work well with all sorts of groups, including staff 'away' / team building days or inclusion / social responsibility policies.

Last week's art session at West Park Hospital NRU was all about keeping things in perspective!

Alex showed some examples of perspective being used in some famous drawings and paintings and then the participants created their own sketches of one point and two point perspective.

In last week's BSL session at West Park Hospital NRU, Gary showed the group how to ask questions.

Scroll to see a slide about how to sign the 'wh...' questioning words and a slide showing an example of the word order - ie: how the question form tends to come last in the BSL order.

These sessions work well with all sorts of groups, including staff 'away' / team building days or inclusion / social responsibility policies.

We’re really pleased to share the first edition of our brand new Real Arts Workshops newsletter with you. This Spring update includes highlights from our recent work across schools, healthcare settings and community projects, along with news about our new creative wellbeing workshops for organisations and teams.

We've had a busy and exciting start to 2026, from collaborative projects with young people and NHS partners to our ongoing art and BSL sessions supporting recovery at West Park Hospital’s Neuro Rehabilitation Unit. We’re also introducing a developing strand of our work called EVOLVE which is focused on supporting staff wellbeing, inclusion and team connection through creative experiences.

If you are planning activity around awareness days, staff development, community engagement or wellbeing programmes this year, we would love to explore how we might work together.

The newsletter is also available on our website (link below) where you can also find a PDF version with live links if you open it in a Reader that supports those.

Thank you for continuing to support Real Arts Workshops and enjoy reading the news, you can download a PDF with active links at the end of this post.
Yours in art,
the RAW team.
