And today in Galway city its Bloomsday 2026.
Although a Dublin phenomenon, the 'beating heart' of Bloomsday is centered in the streets of Galway. Before Nora Barnacle met James Joyce in Dublin, she was living in Bowling Green. She was deeply in love with a local Galway boy, named Michael Bodkin. Tragically Michael contracted TB and died in 1900, aged just 21yrs. He is buried in Rahoon Cemetery in the west of the city. Shortly afterwards, she moved to the Sandymount area of Dublin. While out walking one evening, she met Joyce and they had their first date on the 16th June 1904. The Ulysses novel is built around this one day in the life of Leopold Bloom. The day continues to be celebrated around the world as Bloomsday.

There's something special about exploring Ireland 🇮🇪 west with a local guide. At WTT, no two days are exactly the same! University group on European tour last week, extended family on River Corrib sightseeing yesterday and the Lynch's from New Jersey researching their powerful ancestors today!

This week we welcomed graduate students & Faculty staff from the University of Nth. Carolina at Charlotte on they're European stop-over in Galway. Exploring history nd culture in the west of Ireland, their highlight was the visit to Kylemore Abbey & the greater Connemara region.
