UniLab ļauj tehnoloģijās balstītām universitāšu komandām un jaunuzņēmumiem pārveidot pētniecības atklājumus par veiksmīgiem, augstas pievienotās vērtības uzņēmumiem, izmantojot specializētu mentorēšanu, mērķtiecīgas apmācības un finansējuma atbalstu. UniLab Defence, ko atbalsta Latvijas Aizsardzības ministrija un četras zinātņu universitātes, paātrina divējāda lietojuma dziļo tehnoloģiju jaunuzņēmumu attīstību būdams NATO Ziemeļatlantijas reģiona aizsardzības inovāciju akceleratora DIANA centrs Latvijā. Tā savieno jaunuzņēmumus ar NATO resursiem, testēšanas centriem un gala lietotājiem aizsardzības un rūpniecības jomā.

2026. gadā UniLab uzsāks Latvijā pirmo pirmsakcelerācijas programma aizsardzības jomā, lai izveidotu Latvijas aizsardzības inovāciju ekosistēmu un palīdzētu jaunuzņēmumiem ieviest progresīvus risinājumus valsts un NATO vajadzībām.

🚀 €1.2 million to support Latvia’s next generation of defence startups!

For the first time, Aizsardzības ministrija, in cooperation with UniLab, is launching the national defense pre-acceleration program UniLab Defense.

The programme will support startups developing military and dual-use technologies, helping promising solutions move from development towards real-world deployment and international markets.

🔹 Up to 10 startups will be selected.
🔹 Up to €120,000 in funding per startup.
🔹 Access to experts and mentors from 15 countries.
🔹 Opportunities to validate solutions with the Latvian National Armed Forces and international partners.
🔹 Support for commercialization, exports, and preparation for opportunities such as NATO DIANA.

💡 Are you interested in deep tech and innovation? Are you a researcher, entrepreneur, or simply curious about how innovative ideas can become real-world solutions?

Venture Catalysts is back for its 6th and final cohort, inviting researchers, entrepreneurs, and deep tech enthusiasts to take the next step from idea to impact.
In just four weeks, you will:
– Gain practical knowledge on commercialization and innovation
– Learn basics on how to build and grow a startup
– Explore intellectual property, leadership, and investment
– Connect with experienced mentors and industry experts
– Develop your idea and gain the tools and confidence to move forward
Whether you’re just starting out or already developing a solution, Venture Catalysts will help you turn your innovation into a viable business.

Since 2020, most UniLab Elevate alumni teams are still moving forward - growing, evolving, and building on what they started here.

Starting September 3, UniLab Elevate welcomes its newest cohort - 10 teams selected from a record number of applications this year. Meet the teams👇

🛡️ Frauda Hub (RTU / LU) - Cybersecurity tool for detecting personalised phishing and impersonation attempts, with data processed locally.
⚙️ Noeti Compute Lab (LU) - AI infrastructure that helps route workloads between local hardware, decentralised compute and cloud services.
🐦 Zvirbulis (RTU) - 3D printed aerial target drones for training drone pilots.
🐴 livet (RTU / LBTU) - Veterinary medtech device for non-invasive joint therapy and mobility support, initially focused on horses.
❄️ Icesense (RTU / LU ISSP) - Low-cost optical sensor for detecting ice and measuring ice thickness, with potential use on lakes, roads and infrastructure.
📊 MarketShield AI (LU) - AI tool that helps companies assess marketing campaign risks before committing budget.
🥽 Rimedin Lab (RTU) - VR solution that helps children prepare for hospital visits and medical procedures in a more familiar and less stressful way.
☀️ Radiant Robotics (LU / RTU) - AI and drone-based solution for monitoring solar power plants, detecting faults and supporting maintenance.
🧠 WIZMA (RTU) - AI-powered learning and emotional development app for children aged 3 - 8.
🩺 NORA (RSU) - Digital health platform for PMDD, combining symptom tracking, user support and research data.

Together, this cohort represents all four UniLab universities - RTU - Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte, Latvijas Universitāte, Rīgas Stradiņa universitāte (Riga Stradins University), and LBTU - Latvijas Biozinātņu un tehnoloģiju universitāte.

For 10 years, Startup BBQ has been proving that some of the best startup conversations don’t happen in meeting rooms. Sometimes, they happen in a yard - with a grill, music, and popcorn 🍿 🔥

This year, the yard of Startup House once again filled up with founders, builders, students, friends and everyone who makes the startup ecosystem what it is. And UniLab is proud to be part of it 🙌

Great to see our UniLab Elevate alumni continuing to turn ideas into real-world impact. 🌱

Positive Panels, part of our 2023 UniLab Elevate alumni cohort, is making great progress with its demo house in Latvia, showcasing the installation of their premade hempcrete blocks.

It’s exciting to see the journey continue beyond the program - from developing solutions to putting them into practice and demonstrating what more sustainable construction can look like.

🚀 UniLab Defense is officially opening the Expression of Interest for the Latvian National Defence Tech Accelerator. We’re looking for ambitious defence technology startups that are ready to scale internationally and work directly with military end users.

Who should apply?
🔹TRL 3 - 5 startups with functioning technology and a documented pathway to higher TRLs (not yet at production scale).
🌍 Global ambition with a credible plan to enter the US, Canadian, and other major defence markets.
🛡️ Technology focus: autonomy for superiority, uncrewed systems and enabling technologies across aerial, ground, or maritime domains. Dual-use solutions are welcome, provided the primary use case is defence.
📈 Early market validation, such as pilots, LOIs, commercial discussions, or interest from prime contractors.
👥 Team participation: Founders and CEOs are preferred, though senior Business Development leaders are also eligible.
⚡ Commitment: We’re looking for teams ready to fully engage in an intensive accelerator experience, working closely with mentors, mission partners, and incorporating continuous warfighter feedback.

Significant milestone for UniLab Defence 🚀

We are currently working towards closer collaboration with the Michigan National Guard, creating new opportunities for innovation and international cooperation for our local startup companies 🙌

🇱🇻One of the key outcomes could be enabling startups from the Latvian National Defence Tech Accelerator to participate in Northern Strike - one of NATO’s largest and most significant military readiness exercises. This would provide a unique platform for Latvian defence innovators to test, demonstrate, and further develop their capabilities alongside allied forces.

We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to strengthening transatlantic defence innovation. Special thanks for the support to the Adjutant General at Michigan National Guard, Paul D Rogers, and the Bilateral Affairs Officer from Michigan National Guard at U.S. Military Group - Latvia and U.S. Air Force Maj. JC “Wilk” Wilkinson as well as Kelly Johnson Joint All-Domain Innovation Center.

With only around 10 teams joining the next cohort, the competition is high, and the selection process won’t be easy.
