SMART LEADERSHIP: THE POWER OF DELEGATION. A Management Consultants perspective.

Smart leadership is not about doing everything yourself. It is about knowing what to do, and who should do it better.
Across every field, business, governance, institutions, and community leadership, one truth remains constant, when competent people are empowered, excellence follows; when mediocrity is tolerated, results suffer.

Smart leaders delegate responsibility to capable managers, trust their expertise, and hold them accountable for results. Poor leaders, on the other hand, surround themselves with loyalty instead of competence, then complain when outcomes fall short.

It is legitimateto say that, poor results rarely happen by accident; they are often the consequence of poor leadership choices.
Leadership is not weakened by delegation, it is strengthened by it when done properly. The real test of leadership is not control, but judgment.

Let's us all look around us, are we empowering competence or protecting comfort?
Our results will always tell the truth.
Let's learn lessons when necessary.

R.H.A Consulting was honored to be invited by the Yauri Emirate Students Association recently to speak on Entrepreneurship as a Remedy for Unemployment and Poverty Reduction among the Youth during the launch of their magazine themed “From Horizon to Heritage”, held at the Palace of the Emir Yelwa Yauri.

In today’s harsh economic reality, I emphasized a simple but powerful truth: skills are no longer optional, they are survival tools. Certificates alone are no longer enough. What sets young people apart today is their ability to translate skills into value, solve problems, and create income where jobs are scarce.

Entrepreneurship is not just about starting businesses; it is about mindset, creativity, resilience, and the courage to start where you stand. When young people are equipped with relevant, market-ready skills, they move from job seekers to job creators, reducing unemployment, restoring dignity, and lifting communities out of poverty.

At R.H.A Consulting, we remain committed to empowering youths with practical skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and sustainable pathways to self-reliance.
The future belongs to those who prepare for it, from horizon to heritage.

The Rigour of Center for Management Development (CMD) Training

I recently completed the two-week Advanced Management Trainers’ Development Workshop at the Center for Management Development; an experience that has transformed both my competence and confidence as a trainer. Although I earned the basic certificate as far back as 2009, circumstances delayed my pursuit of the advanced certification. Today, I am truly grateful for that delay, because taking the training now has been a remarkable blessing.

Both the basic and advanced certificates form the pathway to official trainer and institutional accreditation by the Nigerian Council for Management Development; an accreditation that is fast becoming a mandatory requirement for securing training engagements across MDAs in Nigeria. This shift is essential; it will help sanitize the training ecosystem, filter out quack practitioners, and create space for true professionalism to flourish.

The advanced programme itself is exceptionally rigorous, consisting of 19 rich, demanding, and beautifully structured topics, including:

Human Capital Development Overview

Succession Planning for Managerial Growth

Application of Emotional Intelligence in Training & Consulting

Running Effective Foreign Training

Formulation of Training Policy

Developing & Writing Role Plays

Developing & Writing Case Studies

Coaching, Counselling & Mentoring in Consulting and Training

Cost–Benefit Analysis in Training

Evaluating Training Impact on Performance

Trainers as Consultants

Training and Change Management

Use of Research in Training & Development

Application of Prompt Engineering in Training

Effective Marketing of Training & Consulting Services

Ethics in Training and Consulting

Upskilling Through E-Learning

Specialized Programmes and Micro-Facilitation

What makes CMD’s approach exceptional is not just the breadth of these topics but the depth with which each one is taught; blending theory, practical sessions, group work, role plays, case development, and micro-facilitation exercises that push you to grow beyond your comfort zone.

The diversity and calibre of participants; Universities teaching Professors, PhD holders, and seasoned professionals from training and consulting fields; added even more richness to the learning experience. Together, we were stretched, refined, challenged, and ultimately elevated to a higher plane of professional excellence.

I can confidently say I received full value for my investment. I leave this programme better equipped, deeply inspired, and ready to translate knowledge into action as I continue doing what I love; training, facilitating, and consulting with greater mastery and credibility.

Human Capital Development Overview

Human Capital Development (HCD) refers to the deliberate and strategic process of enhancing the knowledge, skills, abilities, values, and overall capacities of people within an organization or society. It is built on the belief that people are the most valuable asset, and when they grow, the institution grows.

HCD involves planned investments in learning, professional development, health, well-being, and the creation of an enabling environment where individuals can perform at their best. It transforms employees from routine workers into strategic contributors who drive innovation, productivity, and long-term competitive advantage.
Why Human Capital Development Matters

1. Enhanced Productivity

Employees perform better when they are well-trained and motivated.

2. Innovation and Competitiveness

A skilled workforce drives creativity, problem-solving, and adaptability.

3. Improved Employee Retention

People stay longer in organizations that invest in their growth.

4. Better Service Delivery

Especially relevant in public sector institutions, where citizen expectations are high.

5. Organizational Sustainability

HCD builds resilience, enabling organizations to navigate economic or industry changes effectively.

6. National Development

At the macro level, human capital fuels economic growth, reduces poverty, and boosts social stability.

Learning from those who have been there before .

This morning, I read a message on a Facebook oage where Akor Adam's of Sevilla FC sent to Victor Osiemhen asking for advice on how Victor manages his “off days.” His reply struck a deep chord, he admitted that bad days are normal, both on and off the field, but what matters most is acknowledging them, staying focused, and letting your quality work speak against the bad moments.

He added that with God first, self-belief, and consistent personal effort and desire to succeed, negativity can be defeated, not by denial, but by discipline.

That, to me, is a powerful life lesson worthy of emulationby the youth or any other person. Bad days are not exclusive to football; they are part of every human experience, in business, relationships, leadership, or personal growth. What matters is how we respond when they come.

The question is: What do you do when those moments come?

Here’s what I’ve learned helps,

1. Accept it, don’t deny it. It’s okay to have off days; even champions do.
2. Pray about it. There’s strength and calmness in reconnecting with God.
3. Focus on what you can control. Don’t let temporary feelings define your permanent potential.
4. Guard your space. Listen to people who lift you up, not those who amplify your pains and dampen your spirit.
5. Keep showing up. Sometimes your best victory is simply refusing to quit.

So, take it easy on yourself today. Acknowledge the tough times, stay focused, and let your good work fight your bad moments.

Building a Future Beyond Government Jobs

In today’s rapidly changing world, one thing is becoming crystal clear , developing practical skills, entrepreneurial drive, and personal productivity offers a more sustainable path to a decent and fulfilling life than waiting endlessly for government employment only. If it comes, good! but don't depend on it alone.

Our teaming youth must understand that the world no longer rewards certificates alone, but competence, creativity, and commitment. There are countless forms of entrepreneurship, from digital innovation, agribusiness, fashion, and crafts to services and social enterprises, all capable of creating income, independence, and impact.

Many who served the government faithfully for decades now rely solely on meagre pensions that can barely meet today’s harsh economic realities. This should serve as a wake-up call, the earlier our youth embrace self-development, focus, and entrepreneurial ventures, the brighter their future becomes.

Let us begin to change the mindset: success is not found in job security, but in value creation. Let us nurture a generation that builds, not waits; that creates, not complains.
Skill, Commitment, Focus, Productivity; These are the real guarantees of a decent lifestyle and a dignified future.
