When medicine’s free, people don’t go without. They stay well, stay out of hospital, and that eases the pressure on our whole health system. With Labour’s Medicard, you can see your doctor for free - and then collect your prescription and pay nothing.

Happy Friday! - Quality time with my youngest 💪🙌❤️! Have a blessed Weekend!

Today I had the privilege of joining Kaumatua Robert Hita and the Huakina Development Trust for the blessing and groundbreaking ceremony of the new franklin.hospice on Foy Rd, Pukekohe. This important project marks the beginning of a purpose-built hospice and community hub that will provide specialist care and support for local families and their whānau close to home.

One of the highlights of the day was learning more about the history and meaning of the place we now call Pukekohe. I was taught that it should properly be known as Pukekohekohe — Puke Kohekohe, meaning “the hill where the Kohekohe trees abundance."

Our place names tell stories. They connect us to the whenua, to those who came before us and to the identity of our communities. Taking time to understand these stories enriches our appreciation of the places we call home.

Thank you to Matua Robert Hita for sharing this knowledge and for leading the blessing. It was an honour to stand alongside community leaders, supporters, and whānau as we turn the soil marking this time of the project that will bring comfort, care and hope to so many in the years ahead.
