NEW CHANGE FOR NZ CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYERS

Less paperwork. More consistency.

WorkSafe New Zealand has released a new prequalification template to help construction businesses assess contractors' health and safety practices more consistently.

The change is especially aimed at helping small businesses and sole traders, who can face repeated and sometimes different prequalification requirements for different jobs.

The new approach is designed to:

✅ Reduce unnecessary duplication
✅ Save businesses time and money
✅ Make contractor assessment more consistent
✅ Focus on actual health & safety capability — not just paperwork

For employers hiring contractors, good prequalification is about knowing who you're bringing onto the job and whether they can manage the risks involved.

For NZ employers and construction businesses: this is worth knowing before your next project or contractor hire.
