Walking away from this talk, you'll know more about funding your idea than most people learn in years.

Lani Evans and Anna Guenther have between them helped raise millions for founders, charities, and community organisations across Aotearoa and they're sharing everything with us at The Peak next Friday, June 19. The wins, the failures, and the practical tips you can actually use.

If funding your mission is on your radar, this one's for you. 🙌

We're excited to bring you our next One to Some workshop called Understanding Your Profit & Loss Statement.

This workshop is designed for owner-led small to medium businesses with little or no financial background. It will support you to better understand the story behind your numbers, make more informed decisions, improve profitability, and gain greater control of your business.

If this sounds like you, get in quick because there are only 15 spots available. Click the link in our comment section to fill out the validation form, and the team at WellingtonNZ will be in touch with next steps and to confirm your funding eligibility.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

✅ Understand a Profit & Loss Statement with more confidence and use it as a management tool to aid decision making going forward.
✅ Know what Gross Profit and Net Profit are and what they can tell you about your business.
✅ Know what actually drives profit (and what erodes it).
✅ Better understand pricing and how it is affected hugely by your labour costs, material costs, and overhead costs.
✅ Structure your pricing so that your business is profitable...not just busy.
✅ Know what the difference is between mark-up vs margin and which you should use.
✅ Know what key information you should track and measure in your Profit & Loss Statement each month.

Workshop details:
• Tuesday, 30 June 2026 9:00am - 12:30pm, please arrive by 8.40am.
• In-person, small group setting — limited to 15 participants
• This BizHub workshop is facilitated by Paula Bearsley, Certified Professional Business Advisor

Co-funded in partnership with Porirua City Council and WellingtonNZ through the Regional Business Partner Network - your pakihi (business) may be eligible to attend at no cost.

Note: eligibility criteria apply. Charities, Trusts, Incorporated Societies and Associations aren't eligible for co-funding. If you're outside Porirua or unsure whether you qualify, just get in touch — we'll work through it with you.

It’s easy to think that because you’re a small business you don’t have to think about IP & Trademark Protection yet. Today we learnt you absolutely should, and why!

It could be as simple as using copyright on your website and documentation, or checking the IP clauses in contracts you sign.

There were also conversations around how mātauranga Māori is considered in these spaces, and some of the additional whakaaro to think about to ensure taonga are collectively protected from wrongful commercialisation and misappropriation.

Lots of wānanga happening in the whare today. The key takeaway? Start thinking about your IP strategy no matter your sector, size, or stage.

E mihi ana ki a koe Lynell for sharing your pūkenga with us.

Solid is our local Porirua business making waves in their industry! They were recently nominated for The Wellington Gold Awards, so we took the opportunity to have a kōrero to hear more about their story.

Solid is a proudly Porirua-based sustainable oral care company founded by Laura Nixon, a dental therapist and hygienist who grew frustrated with the dental industry’s heavy reliance on plastic. She founded the business to offer a range of zero-waste toothpaste, toothpaste tablets, and mouthwash for the whole family. From a home operation in Tītahi Bay to a Porirua lab and supermarket shelves nationwide, Solid proves that good oral health and good environmental values go hand in hand.
