Environmental Design Group

Environmental Design Group Shaping the future of our communities is what we do. We're designers, engineers, environmentalists, Our projects are present throughout the community.

At Environmental Design Group, shaping the future of our communities is what we do best. Our experts specialize in a variety of fields that include civil engineering, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental services and construction management. Working together is how we achieve success, because collaboration across disciplines opens doors of possibility that so often stay closed. Think o

f us as the mind behind: the trail path you hike, the line that transports your water, the added turn lane on your way to work. We make the environment safer, not only because we can respond to environmental risk, but because we do everything with the well-being of our environment in mind. People trust us to see their project through and make community better. It’s here for all of us.

Another section of Northeast Ohio's iconic Towpath Trail is on its way to completion. Environmental Design Group is partnering with the City of Dover on the next extension of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, adding approximately 1.3 miles along city roadways and closing another gap in the route that links Cleveland to Tuscarawas County. The extension will connect neighbors with the park, students to school and visitors with a pedestrian route.

Providing trail design services, our team is helping bring the full Towpath closer to the people it was built to serve and creating a lasting legacy for Northeast Ohio. Learn more at: https://www.yourohionews.com/tuscarawas-county/dover-approves-towpath-trail-design-contract/1064805

The project runs from Canal Dover Park to the Dover-New Philadelphia border and is slated for completion in early 2029.

East Akron’s stormwater infrastructure is built to function on the ground and stand out from above. The Kelly Green Project uses bioretention cells, wetlands, and infiltration basins to slow and capture stormwater before it overwhelms the sewer system, reducing overflows into nearby bodies of water. From above, installations shaped around the neighborhood’s history are visible: a bootprint honoring generations of rubber factory workers, a butterfly-shaped rest stop for migrating monarchs, and a sunrise motif pointing toward the community garden. On the ground, community gardens and public green space are woven right into the neighborhood where residents walk and gather.

Environmental Design Group provided preliminary engineering, landscape architecture and design, ecological investigation and assessments, surveying and construction administration support services. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/2026/08/07/east-akron-sewer-project-looks-like-art-when-viewed-from-the-sky/91126100007/

Campground wastewater plants are designed for variability, running from low levels in the off season to peak flow on a holiday weekend. The new wastewater treatment plant at Tar Hollow Campground in Hocking Hills is built for both, managing 12,000 gallons per day efficiently. Environmental Design Group provided plans and specifications for the replacement, including a new tertiary filtration building to house the disk filter, UV disinfection system, and effluent flow meter. The project also rehabilitated the park's pump stations, adding a new section of sanitary sewer that replaced two existing pump stations.

Our team provided civil engineering services for the plant improvement and pump station rehabilitation. Campers and day visitors benefit from improved water quality, and the campsite gains modernized equipment that is easier to operate and maintain season after season.

As summer events continue to fill calendars and daylight is still plentiful, communities are in full-swing activity this season. How can municipalities keep pace, both on-site and off? In our latest newsletter, we look at why the coming months are optimal for ecological projects, why social media is essential for staying connected with residents, and what it takes to plan ahead on both fronts.

The Village of Utica's wastewater treatment plant upgrade has new equipment on site as it moves through construction. The existing plant dates back to 1930 and was permitted to treat 435,000 gallons per day but is regularly processing more than 500,000 gallons. Environmental Design Group is partnering with the Village on a full plant upgrade. Our construction management team is guiding the project through bidding and contract administration, submittal review, RFIs, change order negotiations, field observation and quantity tracking. The finished product will result in a modernized plant built to serve the Village for decades to come.
