Environmental Design Group

Environmental Design Group Shaping the future of our communities is what we do. We're designers, engineers, environmentalists, Our projects are present throughout the community.

At Environmental Design Group, shaping the future of our communities is what we do best. Our experts specialize in a variety of fields that include civil engineering, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental services and construction management. Working together is how we achieve success, because collaboration across disciplines opens doors of possibility that so often stay closed. Think o

f us as the mind behind: the trail path you hike, the line that transports your water, the added turn lane on your way to work. We make the environment safer, not only because we can respond to environmental risk, but because we do everything with the well-being of our environment in mind. People trust us to see their project through and make community better. It’s here for all of us.

A mixed-use development with flexible public space, Liberty Commons sits at the intersection of Akron's Merriman Valley neighborhood and the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail.

The contrast of light pavement with darker paved lines draws visitors through the courtyard and toward each building, creating an intuitive path. Circular plant beds with benches anchor the walkway, giving people a space to stop, stay and engage with what's around them, whether it's grabbing a meal, window shopping or just taking a moment outside.

EDG provided civil engineering, landscape architecture and surveying services, including the design of the courtyard and parking lot. Want to learn more? Visit the link in the comments ⬇️

The Ohio & Erie Canal Summit Lake Trail connects Akron neighborhoods and visitors to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, promoting equitable access to green space and investment in the area. From above, you see the 130-foot bridge over the Canal, boardwalks, gathering areas, and lakeside lookouts that make up the park. On the ground, you see its impact: neighbors walking, gathering at the water’s edge and spending time with nature and each other.

EDG led detailed trail and bridge design, public bidding, construction administration, documentation management, and field inspection efforts. https://ow.ly/Z9a850Z6tzq

The most impactful project outcomes, whether designing a habitat for giraffes or for revitalizing a community, start with the right people in the room. Our May newsletter explores two sides of that idea: how cross-disciplinary collaboration shapes zoo design, and how communities can leverage economic development tools like TIF, CRA and NCA to fund infrastructure.

Rendering ➡️ reality

Construction is underway at The Cuyahoga Falls RiverLoop. This riverfront project will create a continuous loop trail along the Cuyahoga River, connecting residents and visitors to the water through accessible pathways, vibrant gathering spaces and named destinations like Otter Overlook, Herons Crest, and the RiverLoop Stage.

Our team created 3D renderings and a digital video to help the City of Cuyahoga Falls communicate the vision. More updates to come at https://ow.ly/NvYm50YSwNv
