"Hi, I'm a crane fly, often mistaken for a giant mosquito. Sadly, many people don’t know the truth about me, and because of ignorance, my life was taken even though I pose no harm. I don’t bite, I don’t drink blood, and I don’t spread disease. In fact, I bring you more benefits than you think.
As a larva, I spend my time underground breaking down leaves and enriching the soil. This small but important role helps recycle nutrients and keep plants healthy. Without me and others like me, the balance of nature would be weaker.
When I become an adult, my life is very short, just days or weeks. Some of us don’t even eat, while others sip nectar or water. Sometimes, we even help with pollination, carrying pollen on our fragile bodies. It may not be much, but it matters.
Despite my clumsy flight, I’m part of the food chain too. Birds, bats, spiders, and fish depend on me for survival. So next time you see me, I hope you’ll remember, I am not your enemy. I am just a quiet helper of nature with a small but meaningful purpose."
