The good news? A few simple verification steps can go a long way in protecting your shipments and reducing risk.

Consider making these practices part of every load:

• Speak directly with drivers instead of relying solely on email communication
• Verify MC numbers and carrier information before dispatching freight
• Begin tracking immediately once the load is covered
• Collect the last three digits of the truck's VIN and have the shipper confirm it upon arrival
• Ensure the shipper verifies the carrier before loading freight

These checks only take a few extra minutes, but they can help prevent costly issues like double brokering, carrier impersonation, and freight theft.

A little diligence today can save a major problem tomorrow.
