Burlington City Arts Studio is a project rooted in collaboration, creativity, and care — designed to support the Burlington community and serve as an anchor for the South End Arts District.

Read BCA Studio’s full design story, see the building, the mural, and a few behind-the-scenes moments from our team preparing the wall ahead of the mural installation on our website at https://truexcullins.com/project/bca-studios/

And a reminder: If you’re in Burlington tonight, there’s an event happening at BCA Studios — a great opportunity to experience the space in use. Join us in the community room at 6 pm for the 21st Annual Roland Batten Memorial Lecture, Design from the Heart, presented by Ted Montgomery and the Architecture + Design Film Series.

Ted Montgomery leads this year’s Roland Batten Memorial Lecture Series with “Design from the Heart,” a reflection on values-driven practice and the power of architecture to serve people and place. We’re honored to gather in celebration of thoughtful design, craft, and the deeply human impulse to make.

At a recent presentation, we were asked about strategies for a successful bond vote:

Building Trust through Transparency in the Bond Vote Process.

Context:
Many school districts face facility needs that exceed what can reasonably be addressed through capital reserve funds alone. In these situations, a capital improvement bond – typically a long-term investment approved by voters – becomes the most viable path forward for addressing critical building needs.

In recent years, passing a bond vote has become more challenging. Concerns about property taxes are persistent in New England, and voters expect a clear rationale for any proposed investment, along with evidence of careful stewardship of public funds. At the same time, trust in public institutions and professional expertise cannot be taken for granted. Against this backdrop, districts are asked to make the case for significant investments while navigating fiscal caution, skepticism, and competing community priorities.

Based on our experience working with school districts, we offer the following observations about what can help strengthen the likelihood of a successful bond vote.

More than anything else, our firm’s success is due to a strong and talented team. Today we're proud to celebrate two of our key team members, Kelsey Layman and Zachary Rochman, and congratulate them on new positions with the firm.

Kelsey Layman has been named Senior Interior Designer. Kelsey leads projects in our Residential and Hospitality Studios, working collaboratively with project teams, consultants, and clients. Kelsey is a talented designer with an eye for distinctive and bespoke interiors. Her creative and sophisticated approach to design is very much valued by her clients and colleagues alike.

Zachary Rochman, AIA, LEED AP has been named Senior Project Architect. Zach is a leader with our Residential Studio, where he works closely with clients on tailored, custom homes. Zach’s strong technical acumen, clear communication style, and thoughtful attention to detail is what he brings to every project. And his proficiency with environmental design and building systems contributes to the making of low or zero-energy homes that are comfortable and long lasting.

Please join us in congratulating Kelsey and Zach – we're grateful for the excellence they bring to TruexCullins every day!
