Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with the leadership team at Western Reserve Group in Wooster to discuss one of the most important drivers of organizational success: civility and respect in the workplace.

Strong workplace cultures don’t happen by accident. They are built through consistent, intentional, and high-performing leadership. The leaders who create environments where employees feel valued, heard, and respected are the same leaders who foster engagement, accountability, and results.

I appreciate organizations like Western Reserve Group that recognize leadership development is an ongoing investment—not a one-time event.

A special thank you to Kimberly Hewit, CIC and Jennifer Winter, SHRM-SCP for inviting me to be part of your leadership education series. The commitment to continuous growth made for a fantastic session.

If your organization is looking to strengthen leadership effectiveness, build a culture of respect, and equip leaders with practical tools to navigate today’s workplace challenges, 821 Consulting would love to help.

So excited to be speaking today with SHRM Portage County!

Today’s session, “Beyond the Invite: Earning Influence in Executive Spaces,” focuses on a challenge many HR professionals face: being invited to the table is important—but true impact comes from earning credibility, building trust, and influencing decisions that shape the future of our organizations.

Looking forward to engaging conversations with HR leaders from across the region as we explore how to:
✅ Strengthen executive presence
✅ Communicate business-focused HR insights
✅ Build credibility with senior leaders
✅ Move from participation to strategic influence

Thank you to SHRM Portage County for the opportunity to spend the afternoon with your members. I’m excited to learn, share, and connect with such an incredible group of HR professionals.

Today I had the pleasure of working with one of my favorite partners, the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, for our Coaching for Excellence leadership workshop.

We took a different approach today—stepping away from the traditional PowerPoint presentation and instead focusing on meaningful discussion, reflection, and practical application through a participant workbook. The result was authentic conversations about what it really takes to build and lead high-performing teams.

Some of the key themes we explored included:
✅ The difference between managing work and coaching people
✅ Why clear expectations are the foundation of accountability
✅ How culture is shaped by what leaders reward, reinforce, and tolerate
✅ The importance of leveraging individual strengths and developing talent intentionally
✅ Having coaching conversations early rather than allowing issues to grow
✅ Leading with consistency, confidence, and clarity during times of pressure and change

One of the most powerful reminders from the day was that exceptional teams don’t happen by accident. They are built through intentional leadership, consistent coaching, and a commitment to developing people.

Thank you to the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, the sponsors, and all of the leaders who invested their time and shared their experiences throughout the session. The dialogue was outstanding.

I’m already looking forward to returning in August for When Stakes Are High: Strategic Thinking for Leaders.

If your team is looking to strengthen leadership, improve accountability, build trust, and create a culture of excellence, let’s connect and talk about how 821 Consulting LLC can help!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend time with the leadership team at The Golden Key Center for Exceptional Children, and I couldn’t be more excited about the work they are doing around performance management.

What I appreciate most is that they recognize performance management is not a once-a-year event. It’s an ongoing process that requires clarity, consistency, coaching, and accountability throughout the year.

As part of this work, we are completely rethinking their evaluation approach. Before we could even talk about forms and ratings, we had to answer a much more important question: What are the core expectations every employee should demonstrate to support the mission and vision of the organization?

From there, we’re building role-specific competencies that clearly define what success looks like in different positions across the organization.

One of the most engaging conversations has been around scoring. Rather than defaulting to a traditional 1–5 rating scale, the team is challenging themselves to create a system that is more meaningful, more objective, and easier for employees to understand.

This work is about far more than an evaluation tool. It’s about creating alignment, setting clear expectations, developing people, and building a culture where performance conversations happen year-round—not just during annual reviews.

Watching this leadership team lean into the process, ask tough questions, and focus on getting it right has been incredibly fulfilling. I can’t wait to see it all come together when we roll out the new performance management system to staff in August.

Strong organizations don’t happen by accident. They are built intentionally, one conversation, one expectation, and one leader at a time.

Here’s a natural closing you could add:

If your organization’s performance management process feels more like a paperwork exercise than a tool for growth, it may be time for a reset.

At 821 Consulting LLC, I help organizations build performance management systems that create clarity, accountability, development, and alignment—not just annual evaluations.

🌱 Investing in People. Strengthening Practice. Serving the Community. 🌱

Yesterday, I have the privilege of continuing the Forward Together: Rebuilding the Champaign County Way journey with the team at Champaign County JFS.

One of the things I admire most about Director Stacy Cox’s leadership is her commitment to investing in her people. Strong organizations don’t happen by accident—they are built intentionally. Over the past several months, we’ve focused on helping the team develop a shared foundation through conversations about communication, emotional intelligence, healthy conflict, accountability, trust, and team dynamics.

Those topics aren’t about fixing problems—they’re about creating alignment, building stronger relationships, and ensuring everyone is moving in the same direction.

As that foundation continues to strengthen, we can shift our focus toward the next level: building excellence into every aspect of our work.

Yesterday’s conversation on Values, Behaviors & Team Identity is about understanding how the way we show up each day impacts our colleagues, our culture, and ultimately the quality of service we provide to the children, families, and community members who depend on us.

Because at the end of the day, this work isn’t just about building a stronger team.

It’s about building a stronger team so we can make a greater impact. That’s where excellence matters most.

👏 Thank you to Stacy and the entire Champaign County JFS team for your willingness to invest in growth, engage in meaningful conversations, and continuously strive to be the best version of yourselves and your organization.

The strongest organizations understand that excellence begins with people.

If your team is ready for a deeper dive into leadership, communication, accountability, team performance, and operational excellence, 821 Consulting LLC can help.

Together, we’ll build the foundation that allows your organization to thrive—both internally and in the communities you serve.
